Role Context:
Metco Limited is one of the leading manufacturers of quality products fabricated from mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium, based in the heart of Industrial Area, Nairobi, Kenya.
With repeat customers turning to Metco to purchase standard products across a range of B2B industries, Metco has established a name and brand for delivering quality products. Metco’s strategy is focused on growth through diversification, innovation, quality and performance.
To assist Metco deliver its strategy it is embracing lean methodologies and is currently in a “Describe” stage of revising and updating its fabrication and business systems and processes.
Adding to the unique range of products Metco was recently awarded a contract to build the IMARA wheelchair in partnership with Motivation Charitable Trust. The wheelchair has 4 different models, with variations in sizes that will be produced. The wheelchair will be initially distributed throughout Kenya, then the rest of Africa and beyond. The project has many interested parties, and the target outputs are to double each year for the next 5 years.
The production line will initially require integrating into Metco’s existing setup with some initial additional required investments and upgrades, later as the volumes increase there will be a dedicated production line. This new product and the requirement to increase the manufacturing maturity has created this opportunity to add an additional member to the leadership team at Metco.
The Role:
This role is transitional, meaning it will start in a supervisory capacity and evolve into a production manager once the volumes and capacity dictate the need for a separate dedicated production line.
The role will be initially supported by external advisors and senior management team but will be fully accountable for the coordination of activities to support the delivery of a quality product as designed.
As Metco is currently in the process of refining its established workplace standards and manufacturing methods. It's an exciting time to join and have input into the rules, procedures and standards. Compliance and routine will be key in ensuring that described procedures are followed precisely and feedback is supported with data to make any refinements.
As the role matures and the role holder gains substantial hands-on experience in manufacturing the IMARA wheelchair they will ascend to a Production Manager role, where you will be fully accountable for ensuring all the processes and workplace environment of the workshop where the wheelchair will be produced are optimal. Leading and developing a team multiskilled fabricators to deliver high quality product within committed time and costs.
