JOB TITLE: SEWAGE TREATMENT OPERATOR 
NATURE OF JOB: FULL TIME

SALARY: KSHS. 30,000-35,000 
JOB LOCATION: ONGATA RONGAI


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operation and Maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plant
  • Operate and monitor sewage Treatment Plant (STP) equipment, pumps, blowers, and clarifiers.
  • Ensure proper functioning of aeration tanks, sludge digesters, and chemical dosing units.
  • Maintain optimal operational parameters and ensure compliance with discharge norms.
  • Process Monitoring:
  • Conduct regular sampling and analysis at various stages of treatment.
  • Monitor parameters such as pH, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), and TSS (Total Suspended Solids) as per regulatory standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain logs of daily operations, chemical consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental laws, such as those prescribed by pollution control boards.
  • Implement processes to minimize environmental impact and optimize water usage.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
  • Conduct routine checks and schedule preventive maintenance for STP equipment.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to address any equipment malfunctions or repairs promptly.
  • Chemical Management:
  • Manage the inventory and usage of treatment chemicals such as coagulants, flocculants, and disinfectants.
  • Optimize chemical dosing to ensure cost-effective operation while maintaining treatment efficiency.
  • Safety and Environmental Management:
  • Follow safety protocols during the operation of STP.
  • Address any spillages or emergencies as per established safety procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
  • Degree in chemical engineering or water engineering (or related field)
  • Diploma holders with significant relevant experience may also be considered
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in STP operations
  • Strong knowledge of STP processes and wastewater treatment technologies
  • Ability to interpret lab results and make process adjustments accordingly
  • Proficient in record-keeping, data logging, and report preparation
