Job summary

The Bar & Restaurant Accountant oversees all day-to-day financial operations, inventory reconciliation, cost analysis, and accounting functions for our hospitality operations. This role ensures strict control over cash flow, high-turnover beverage or food inventory, vendor payables, payroll, and point-of-sale (POS) batch reconciliations.

Job descriptions & requirements

​Key Responsibilities

  • ​Sales & Cash Reconciliation. Perform daily reconciliations of POS sales reports against merchant services settlement batches, cash drawers, and gift card balances.
  • Investigate drawer overages or shortages and excessive voids, comps, or promos.  
  • ​Cost of Goods Sold & Inventory Control. Track weekly beverage and food COGS against target benchmarks.
  • Audit physical counts of high-value inventory and calculate variance against theoretical usage to control shrinkage and waste.  
  • ​Accounts Payable & Vendor Management. Verify 3-way matching for food/beverage invoice deliveries, purchase orders, and actual billing rates.
  • Ensure timely payment processing to maximize vendor discounts and prevent supply disruptions. 
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring compliance with tip pooling/sharing rules, tip credit regulations, overtime calculations, and labor laws.
  • Track labor costs against daily sales percentages.
  • ​Financial Reporting & Compliance.
  • Prepare monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, store-level performance metrics, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage sales tax, alcohol excise tax filings, and local licensing compliance.  


Qualifications & Requirements

  • ​Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of ​3–5+ years of accounting experience specifically within the hospitality, restaurant, or bar industry.
  • Proficiency with hospitality POS systems integrated with accounting software e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Restaurant365.
  • ​Deep understanding of restaurant financial metrics
  • Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail.
