MILLER (Nairobi & Eldoret)

JOB PURPOSE  

Reporting to the Head Miller, the role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of grain milling equipment. This includes optimal setting of grain cleaning and grinding processes to achieve targeted extraction rates, basic troubleshooting, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND KEY RESULTS AREAS

1. Production Execution

• Deliver production plans on time and align with schedules.
• Maintain stock availability and update SAP records as required.

2. Food Safety & Quality Compliance

• Ensure high product quality and meet food safety standards.
• Maintain GMPs and comply with legal requirements.

3. Grain Cleaning & Milling Efficiency

• Optimize grain cleaning, water addition, and lying time.
• Maintain target milling efficiency and extraction rates.

4. Process Optimization & Cost Control

• Monitor production costs and minimize losses.
• Adhere to product specs and investigate process issues promptly.

5. Pest & Hygiene Management

• Maintain cleanliness and inspect for pest infestation.
• Support sanitation and equipment access during maintenance.

6. Maintenance Support

• Conduct regular equipment checks and autonomous maintenance.
• Assist in planned maintenance and ensure process integrity.

7. Continuous Improvement & Safety

• Drive efficiency through improvement tools (e.g., PDCA, PaTaMu).
• Promote safety and support culture-building initiatives.

8. Team Leadership

• Coach and supervise team members effectively.
• Ensure clear communication and timely conflict resolution.

9. Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare and share accurate production reports.
• Reconcile materials and participate in stock counts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering or its equivalent 
• Diploma / Advanced Certificate in Milling Technology
• Minimum three years of experience in the milling industry
• Computer proficiency in MS. Office                                                 
• Possess good communication skills.
• Supervisory skills
• Meticulous attention to detail, Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and Excellent presentation skills
