Reporting To: Maintenance Supervisor / Engineering Manager
Department: Production
Job Purpose
To ensure smooth and efficient operation of mechanical systems within the production line by conducting timely maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant machinery. The role supports continuous operations in compliance with local industry standards, safety regulations, and company production targets.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on all mechanical production equipment, including motors, gearboxes, rollers, and conveyor systems.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and breakdowns and provide quick, cost-effective solutions to reduce machine downtime.
• Support machine installation, testing, alignment, and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
• Collaborate with production operators and the electrical team to ensure equipment efficiency and reliability.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of maintenance activities and equipment history, in line with company recordkeeping standards.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives for machine reliability.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) policies when performing tasks.
• Provide technical support during shift operations to ensure production targets are met.
• Ensure availability and correct usage of mechanical tools, spares, and safety gear.
• Recommend and implement improvements to reduce maintenance costs and improve equipment uptime.
Qualifications
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Engineering, or a related technical field from a recognized Kenyan institution (e.g., Kenya Polytechnic, KNEC-certified institutions).
• Minimum of 2–3 years’ hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial setup.
• Knowledge of common mechanical systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
Key Competencies & Skills
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and SOPs.
• Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or maintenance logs.
• Good communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
• Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and Kenyan occupational health standards.
• Ability to work under pressure, including weekends, shifts, and emergencies.
