Caritas Nairobi is the aid and social development agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi.
Our vision is to see a just, self-reliant and value-based society. We work in the counties of Kiambu and Nairobi to provide aid and social development services without regard to race, gender, age, social or religious backgrounds.
Job Summary
The auditor’s work will be to support and improve the operations of Caritas Nairobi Socio Economic Empowerment program.
Duties and responsibilities
1) Ensuring application and implementation of guidelines, policies and procedures relating to Caritas Nairobi and the Self-Help Programme.
2) Reviewing the credibility and integrity of financial statements by
a. Ensuring the financial statements of the groups have been prepared in accordance with the IFRS, IAS and GAAPs.
b. Verifying that Self-help group loans are fully appraised, well documented and properly disbursed.
c. Proposing useful recommendations for mitigating risk, improving processes, and/or implementing operational efficiencies;
d. Identifying risks and evaluate adequacy of controls;
e. Appropriately identifying exceptions and communicate to audit team and management;
f. Objectively reviewing self-help programme operational processes;
g. Evaluating the efficacy of risk management procedures that are currently in place
h. Protecting against fraud and theft of the self-help groups assets;
i. Making recommendations on how to improve internal controls and governance processes
3) Reviewing the economic efficiency and effectiveness in the utilization of the group resources so that its objectives are achieved.
4) Training and Development through targeted training in areas of finance, accounting, leadership, management
5) Investigating allegations of fraud, and reviewing fraud prevention controls and detection processes put in place by management,
6) Maintaining files and supporting documentation for audits and other assignments
7) Identifying and qualifying key business risks estimating the probability of occurrences and the impact on the Group and making appropriate recommendations
8) Conduct compressive internal audits to assess financial and operational processes, controls, and compliance.
9) Evaluate financial management systems, budgetary controls, and financial reporting for curacy and transparency.
10) Assess governance framework, policies and procedures for compliance with regulations and ethical standards.
11) Prepare detailed audit reports, highlighting findings, recommendations, and areas for improvement.
12) Supervising election process in the groups ie vetting, induction training and office reconstruction.
13) coordinating formation of new groups.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent field
2. CPA (K)
3. Proven experience as an internal auditor for at least 5 years
4. Strong analytical, interpersonal, written/verbal communication and relationship building skills
5. Analytical, logical and methodical
6. Ability to interact with senior level management
7. Advanced skills in excel
8. Able to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
