Temporary Data Officer/Mentor (USAID-MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity (M-RITE))

PATH is currently recruiting

for two full-time Data Officer/Mentors for the USAID-funded MOMENTUM (Moving Integrated, Quality Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and Family Planning and Reproductive Health Services to Scale) Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity Project. The MOMENTUM awards seek to contribute to global technical leadership and evidence generation and dissemination around maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RH) services.

The projectâs overarching goal is to sustainably strengthen routine immunization programs to 1) overcome the entrenched obstacles contributing to stagnating and declining immunization rates in USAID-supported countries, and 2) address the barriers to reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children with life-saving vaccines and other health services. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the disruption of immunization services, the project will also support countries with the maintenance, adaptation, suspension, and/or reinstatement of immunization services.

The MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity Project supports routine immunization activities at the national level in Kenya through technical assistance as well as at the county level in Homabay and Vihiga counties.

The Data Officer/Mentors will be based in Homabay and Vihiga counties and will support routine monitoring and data entry staff in these counties to improve the quality of routine data entered into KHIS through identification of barriers and solutions to improving data quality, ongoing mentorship to health workers, and documentation of processes and procedures.

Key responsibilities

Support project Program Officers in Homabay and Vihiga counties to provide technical support to facility health workers to improve the quality of data (timeliness, completeness, and validity) entered into KHIS

Support facility health workers in Homabay/Vihiga County with ongoing mentorship on data quality and use, including data management, entry, and visualization

Identify and document barriers and solutions to improving data quality at the health facility level

Support project Program Officers to work with stakeholders at subcounty and county MOHs to implement identified solutions to improving data quality

Support the project team in documenting lessons learned from efforts to improve data quality at the facility level

Required skills and Experience

Bachelorâs degree in a related field plus a minimum of five years of professional experience. Masterâs degree in public health, or related field will be an added advantage.

Minimum of two yearsâ experience working with KHIS

Experience working with routine immunization coverage indicators in KHIS or another data platform

Experience with immunization registers

Demonstrated experience with data visualization required

Documented experience contributing to an inclusive environment and discussing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion as it relates to team and overall PATH priorities

Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment as part of a cross-disciplinary team operating in multiple locations and time zones

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Excellent verbal and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills

Excellent attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills
