Job Description/Requirements
- Provide authorized dental care services to patients of all ages, including cleaning teeth, removing plaque, filling cavities, rebuilding broken teeth, and removing severely damaged teeth.
- Examining patients, diagnosing dental conditions, and creating treatment plans.
- Effectively manage patient appointments, maintain schedules, and ensure efficient workflow in the clinic.
- Provide compassionate care and establish a positive rapport with patients to promote their comfort and satisfaction.
- Ensure that all procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established dental standards.
- Refer all complex procedures, such as fillings, extractions, root canals, periodontal treatments, or cosmetic dentistry procedures like teeth whitening and any other beyond your scope, to dentists or dental specialists.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining treatment options, procedures, and expected outcomes.
- Address patient concerns and answer questions related to oral health and treatment plans.
- Discuss treatment costs, payment plans, and answer questions related to dental procedures.
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with Gilgil Specialist Hospital policies and standards.
- Ensure proper sterilization of dental instruments and equipment, as well as compliance with hygiene practices.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient consultations, examinations, treatments performed, and prescribed medications. These records are crucial for follow-up visits and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Complete all preauthorization forms and insurance claim forms.
- Collaborate with the clinic’s administrative staff for billing and insurance purposes.
- Enter accurate patient biodata, vital signs, history and treatment given in the Hospital Management Information System.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality dental care by following established Gilgil Specialist Hospital clinical protocols and standards.
- Monitor treatment outcomes, patient satisfaction, and continually seek ways to improve the quality of care provided.
- Abide by ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements related to dental practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within Gilgil Specialist Hospital, such as physicians, specialists, or dental hygienists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Consult with colleagues on complex cases and refer patients to specialists for advanced treatment, if necessary.
- Prepare and submit dental consumable consumption reports monthly.
- Share the out-of-stock items report daily with the supervisor.
- Manage inventory of the equipment and supplies at the dental unit, including preparing orders as needed to avoid stock-outs.
- Offer preventive dental services such as oral health instructions and demonstrations, pits and fissure sealants, and traumatic resin restoration
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in dental techniques, materials, and technologies to ensure compliance with evolving dentistry standards.
- Participate in professional development activities, attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and pursue ongoing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Diploma in Community Oral Health
- Registered with a valid license from Oral Health Association of Kenya (OHAK) / Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
- Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience
- Proficient in computer applications
- Good communication skills
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental hygiene and oral health.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
- Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)
