Job Description/Requirements
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Aquaculture Technician based in Shimoni, Kenya. This pivotal role involves overseeing and managing the technical aspects of our aquaculture operation. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team, ensuring the effective implementation of our aquaculture program, maintaining optimal production conditions, and driving innovation in aquaculture techniques. A strong understanding of aquaculture practices, technology, and sustainability principles is crucial.
Responsibilities:
- Manage fish hatchery operations, including broodstock selection, fry production, larval rearing, and overall hatchery management.
- Formulate and manufacture nutritionally balanced feed for aquatic organisms.
- Compile timely and accurate technical reports on aquaculture activities on the farm.
- Collect, update, and maintain precise aquaculture statistics.
- Organize training sessions with farm hands.
- Implement and promote good farm practices to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, industry partners, and build productive relationships to optimize productivity, profitability, and environmental stewardship in aquaculture practices on the farm.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, Aquatic Sciences, or equivalent aquaculture-related qualification from a recognized institution.
- At least two years of working experience in a busy fish hatchery or fish farm.
- Experience with crabs or prawns will be considered a bonus.
- Proficiency in nutrition formulation.
- Computer literate.
- Willingness to work under minimal supervision and during odd hours.
