JOB LOCATION:SOMALIA, MOGADISHU AIRPORT (UNGREEN ZONE)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision and Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of hospital cleaning staff to ensure all areas are cleaned to the highest standard.
- Allocate daily cleaning tasks and ensure even distribution of workloads across shifts and staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings and briefings to communicate expectations, updates, and safety procedures.
- Monitor staff performance, conduct evaluations, and take corrective action where
- performance issues are identified.
- Promote a culture of accountability, respect, and professionalism within the cleaning team.
Cleaning Operations Management
- Oversee daily cleaning operations across all hospital areas, including:
- Patient wards and isolation rooms
- Operating theatres and ICUs
- Laboratories and diagnostic areas
- Administrative offices and staff areas
- Public areas, restrooms, corridors, and entrances
- Ensure that high-touch and high-risk areas are cleaned and disinfected according to infection control protocols.
- Ensure the safe and correct use of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment, including floor machines, vacuum cleaners, and fogging devices.
Quality Control and Inspections
- Develop and implement cleaning checklists and inspection routines to monitor cleanliness levels.
- Conduct frequent site walkthroughs and hygiene inspections to verify cleaning quality.
- Address substandard cleaning issues promptly and report major concerns to hospital management.
- Maintain documented records of inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions.
Training and Development
- Train new and existing cleaning staff on:
- Infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures
- Use and maintenance of cleaning equipment
- Safe handling and dilution of cleaning chemicals
- Waste segregation and biohazard disposal procedures
- Identify skills gaps and organize refresher training as needed.
- Promote adherence to international cleaning and disinfection standards, especially in clinical areas.
Inventory and Resource Management
- Monitor and manage stock levels of cleaning supplies, PPE (e.g., gloves, masks), and equipment.
- Prepare and submit requisition orders in a timely manner to avoid shortages.
- Ensure all equipment is regularly cleaned, maintained, and reported if faulty.
Health, Safety & Infection Control Compliance
- Ensure compliance with hospital hygiene, sanitation, and waste management policies.
- Coordinate with the infection control team to implement and reinforce protocols, especially during outbreaks.
- Ensure cleaning staff follow proper procedures when cleaning contaminated or infectious areas (e.g., isolation rooms, COVID-19 zones).
- Enforce safety guidelines such as correct signage during wet cleaning and use of PPE.
- Investigate and report any incidents, near misses, or hazards to relevant authorities.
Waste Management
- Supervise proper segregation, collection, and disposal of hospital waste, including:
- General waste
- Sharps and hazardous materials
- Infectious and biohazardous waste
- Ensure waste bins are clearly labeled and disposed of according to hospital and environmental regulations.
Coordination and Communication
- Liaise regularly with hospital departments (nursing, maintenance, security) to coordinate cleaning tasks.
- Respond promptly to urgent or emergency cleaning requests, such as bodily fluid spills or contamination incidents.
- Report any building maintenance issues (e.g., broken fixtures, leaks) encountered during cleaning operations.
- Prepare and submit routine cleaning reports to senior management as required.
Emergency Preparedness
- Be part of the hospital's emergency response plan for infection outbreaks or contamination incidents.
- Ensure staff are trained and ready to respond to emergencies, such as biohazard spills, within prescribed timelines.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a hospital, healthcare facility, or high-risk environment
- Proven experience supervising and managing a cleaning team
- Strong knowledge of hospital hygiene standards, infection control practices, and relevant health & safety regulations
- Experience working in challenging or remote locations is an advantage
- Basic computer literacy for scheduling, reporting, and inventory tracking
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required; knowledge of Somali or other local languages is an asset
