Key Responsibilities.
a) Patient focus
• Provide primary care services, including resuscitation, stabilization, primary clinical assessments and diagnosis, treatment, and referral as per the scope of service and approved guidelines.
• Assess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination, and investigation.
• Recommending and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counselling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
• Referral for diagnostic, therapeutic, and support services as required.
• Provide timely clinical and culturally appropriate health services through ongoing health and development assessment and advice.
• Provide appropriate evidence-based screening, risk assessment, and early detection of illness, disease, and disability.
• Offer interventions to assist people in reducing or changing risky and harmful lifestyle behavior.
• Provide family planning services, provision of contraceptive advice, and sexual health services.
• Provide immunization programs as per the set SOPs.
• Establish links with a range of primary and secondary health care providers and develop initiatives to enable patient-centric, coordinated care that meets the needs of patients.
• Maintain a compassionate and professional approach while addressing patient concerns or inquiries.
b) Driving profitability
• Develop and maintain the patient base through superior clinical procedures, outcomes and excellent patient experience.
• Ensure all patient services undertaken are charged out in accordance with appropriate protocols.
• Ensure clinical notes are entered into the HMIS system and that the information recorded is accurate, appropriate, and in accordance with agreed protocols.
• Ensure claim forms are appropriately completed with the required information for claim processing.
c) Quality Management
• Monitor and review all clinical indicators and continuously develop initiatives to close quality gaps.
• Participation in clinical audit as required.
• Establish and maintain clinical governance in the Medical Centre aimed at driving accountability, excellence, and regulatory compliance in patient care.
• Provide leadership in the utilization of patient demographics and market data to design and actualize Clinic-specific research and development programs.
• Participate in the formulation and implementation of sustainable clinical protocols, policies, standard operating procedures, and service level agreements for best practice in patient care in consultation with Head of Clinical Services.
• Represent the interests of the Medical Centre in respective medical forums, when called upon, and cascade decisions on matters related to patient care.
• Ensure compliance with the Gilgil Specialist Hospital safety procedures, environmental, health, and occupational safety measures.
• Maintain equipment assigned in good working condition and ensure planned preventive maintenance of equipment is done in liaison with the Clinic Lead.
• Recording all incidents, accidents, nonconformities, and participating in their investigations and resolutions.
• Ensure proper handling and confidentiality of patient records and adhere to data protection regulations.
d) Team Collaboration
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including other doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, to coordinate patient care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment plans, including any complaints received and closure.
• Participate in the monthly staff meetings, including any team-building activities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of all SOPs required for the section are in place, are understood by staff in the sections, and are implemented consistently.
• Identify areas for service improvement and make recommendations to the Clinic lead.
• Adhere to Gilgil Specialist Hospital Code of Conduct and Work Ethics.
e) Continuous learning
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in medical practice through continuing education and professional development activities.
• Supervise, mentor and develop junior staff and trainees in patient care, ensuring that their performance meets Gilgil Specialist Hospital standards of care as per the standard operating procedures.
• Participate in the identification of training needs for self and junior staff and ensure participation in the training courses.
• Conduct competence-based assessments and performance appraisals as per Gilgil Specialist Hospital HR Policy guidelines.
Job Specifications
Academic qualification:
• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or MBBS).
• Registered and with a valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)
Professional experience:
• Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• At least One (1) year post-internship experience in either a public or private hospital
Skills & competencies required:
• Strong leadership and relationship-building skills
• Proficient computer skills for data entry, analysis, and report generation.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with the medical team and patient interaction.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize workload.
