This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the medical services within the facility, including coordinating medical teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and managing medical operations in liaison with the Facility's Administration.

Job Description/Requirements
- Oversee and manage patient care, ensuring that medical staff are delivering appropriate treatment based on diagnosis, clinical guidelines, and patient needs.
- Provide direct patient care, including complex or high-risk cases.
- Monitor patient progress, review test results, and ensure that medical interventions are appropriate and timely.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers (e.g., specialists, nurses, and therapists) to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients as per the scope of service.
- Ensure consistent and accurate medical records practices as per the approved guidelines.
- Drive strategic Gilgil Specialist Hospital culture and performance to achieve a superior patient journey.
- Adequately, oversee the timely resolution of all customer complaints and concerns.
- Ensure clinical notes are entered into the HMIS system and that the information recorded is accurate, appropriate, and in accordance with agreed protocols.
- Ensure claim forms are appropriately completed with the required information for claim processing.
- Lead in the development and realization of the team’s short, medium, and long-term goals and supervise the medical staff within the unit, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels, handle shift management, and assist in the recruitment, training, and orientation of new medical staff.
- Organize regular medical team meetings to discuss patient care, treatment protocols, and operational issues.
- Train and mentor, the new nurses and healthcare assistants.
- Conduct staff performance evaluations, address performance issues, and support continuing education and training.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support ongoing professional development through mentoring and coaching.
- Represent the interests of the Medical Centre in respective medical and leadership forums and cascade strategic decisions across the different departments.
- Manage any disputes and grievances within the team in consultation with the Human Resource team.
- Participate in the identification of training needs for self and junior staff and ensure participation in the training courses.
- Ensure the achievement of minimal learning hours for all team members.
- Formulate and actualize the revenue targets while driving the financial growth and profitability of the Medical Centre.
- Develop and maintain the patient base through superior clinical procedures, outcomes, and excellent patient experience.
- Ensure all patient services undertaken are charged out in accordance with appropriate protocols.
- Represent the Medical Centre’s Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and Operating Expense (OPEX) needs while ensuring optimal utilization of allocated resources, equipment, and consumables.
- Prepare and present regular reports to hospital management or the Board regarding medical department performance, patient outcomes, and staff issues.
- Assist in budgeting and resource allocation for the medical department, including the procurement of medical supplies and equipment.
- Ensure proper record-keeping of medical billing and coding for insurance and patient billing purposes.
- Formulate and implement sustainable clinical protocols, policies, standard operating procedures, and service level agreements for best practice in patient care in consultation with the Head of Clinical Services.
- Monitor and review all clinical indicators and continuously develop initiatives to close quality gaps.
- Establish and maintain clinical governance in the Medical Centre aimed at driving accountability, excellence, and regulatory compliance in patient care.
- Provide leadership in the utilization of patient demographics and market data to design and actualize Clinic-specific research and development programs.
- Ensure the achievement of annual regulatory qualifications and licensing for the respective team members.
- Develop, implement, and ensure adherence to medical policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of care.
- Monitor the quality of care provided by the medical team, conducting audits, chart reviews, and patient outcome assessments.
- Investigate and report any incidents, adverse events, or complaints related to patient care, and develop corrective action plans as needed.
- Lead and coordinate emergency medical response within the hospital or healthcare facility.
- Ensure that the medical staff is trained and ready for disaster management, patient surge situations, or public health emergencies.
- Maintain and review emergency medical protocols, conducting drills and simulations when necessary.
- Recording all incidents, accidents, nonconformities, and participating in their investigations and resolutions.
- Ensure proper handling and confidentiality of patient records and adhere to data protection regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including other doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment plans, including any complaints received and closure.
- Participate in the monthly staff meetings, including any team-building activities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of all SOPs required for the section are in place, are understood by staff in the sections, and are implemented consistently.
- Identify areas for service improvement and make recommendations to the Clinic lead.
- Adhere to the Gilgil Specialist Hospital Code of Conduct and Work Ethics.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or MBBS).
- Registered and with a valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- At least one (1) year post-internship experience in either a public or private hospital
- Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- Knowledge of healthcare policies, documentation, and reporting procedures.
- Proficiency in computer skills (especially Health Management Information Systems).
- Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)
- Strong clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
- Ability to lead a medical team, manage staff, and oversee clinical operations.
- Project management and report writing skills.
- Training or certification in hospital administration, public health, or emergency care.
- Ability to handle budgeting and resource management in smaller or rural facilities.
- Knowledge of laws of Kenya, regulations, guidelines, and health schemes.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, patients, and other stakeholders
