Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Potter and Ceramics Artisan who will be responsible for creating functional and decorative clay products. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in clay preparation, sculpting, glazing, firing, and have a passion for teaching pottery to young learners.
Responsibilities:
Clay Preparation: Mix the right proportions of water and clay to achieve the desired texture for moulding and sculpting.
Sculpting: Utilize both the throwing wheel device and hand-building skills to raise and shape clay into various functional and ornamental items such as vases, bowls, and mugs.
Glazing: Demonstrate a high level of skill in glazing to ensure both the protection and aesthetic appeal of the clay products.
Firing: Operate an electric kiln efficiently to perfectly fire the produced clay items, ensuring durability and quality.
Teaching: Share knowledge and passion for pottery by providing engaging and informative sessions to young learners during school trips.
Skills Needed:
Attention to Detail: Ability to achieve complex pattern designs and intricate details in pottery items.
Creativity: Innovative thinking to create aesthetically pleasing and unique pottery designs.
Patience: Commitment to producing high-quality pottery through careful and precise craftsmanship.
Hand-Eye Coordination: Precision and coordination for working with clay and various tools to create high-quality materials.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills to effectively train and engage visitors and learners.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in both English and Kiswahili.
Fine Arts Knowledge: Understanding of the theory and techniques in fine arts, including music, dance, visual arts, drama, and sculpture, would be considered an added advantage.
