The Program Officer will assist the Associate Director of Programs in providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Nyakichiwa, Tarakwet, and Kisaruni (NYATAK) Regenerative Agriculture Project. The role ensures that project activities are designed, implemented, monitored, and reported in line with donor requirements.

Job descriptions & requirements

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES       

1. Assist in Program Leadership and Coordination

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership of the NYATAK project across Nyakichiwa, Tarakwet, and Kisaruni.
  • Coordinate technical, financial, and operational aspects, including regenerative farming, school feeding, kitchen operations, school gardens, and M&E.
  • Liaise with school authorities, county departments, farmer groups, and partners to ensure alignment and synergy.


2. Assist in Project Planning and Adaptive Management

  • Develop and oversee detailed annual work plans, budgets, and activity calendars using professional project management tools (e.g., Gantt charts, workback schedules).
  • Track progress against milestones, ensuring timely delivery of outputs.
  • Lead adaptive management, applying lessons from M&E findings and field feedback to adjust strategies.


3. Assist in monitoring, evaluation, learning, and safeguards

  • Assist in designing and implementing a robust M&E framework (baseline, midline, endline) focusing on farmer adoption, yield and income changes, school feeding coverage, and learner health indicators.
  • Ensure data quality, secure storage, and compliance with data protection and privacy standards.
  • Establish protocols for informed consent, confidentiality, and safeguarding of vulnerable groups, especially children.
  • Produce evidence‑based reports and facilitate learning sessions to inform decision‑making.


4. Assist with the engagement of farmers and the community

  • Recruit and manage farmer groups, lead farmers, and Farmer Field Schools.
  • Facilitate inclusive community engagement through barazas, PTA meetings, and school farmer forums.
  • Coordinate incentives, inputs, and performance linkages such as school feeding contracts for surplus produce.


5.  School feeding and infrastructure coordination

  • Support school teams in managing garden productivity, menu design, cost per plate, and feeding operations.
  • Oversee integration of solar‑powered kitchens and explore surplus energy use for school facilities.


6. Stakeholder relations and reporting

  • Maintain strong relationships with county government, schools, NGOs, and technical partners.
  • Prepare and present progress, financial, and narrative reports for internal and donor audiences.
  • Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned for knowledge sharing.


7. Team management and capacity building

  • Participate in regular team meetings, capacity building sessions, and cross‑site learning exchanges.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safeguarding, and continuous improvement.
