Technical Project Manager – Software & Automation

Reports To: VP of RCM & Automation

Location: Remote, Kenya

Employment Type: Contract

 

The ideal candidate has direct experience managing software development projects, facilitating Agile/Scrum ceremonies, and communicating with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. This is a highly visible, client-facing role requiring strong verbal communication, sound project management judgment, and the ability to independently drive projects forward.

 

Key Responsibilities


Software & Technical Project Management

  • ·         Lead software development, automation, integration, and other technical projects from initiation through delivery.
  • ·         Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, dependencies, risks, and deliverables.
  • ·         Coordinate work across developers, technical teams, operational stakeholders, vendors, clients, and leadership.
  • ·         Translate business requirements and stakeholder expectations into clear project objectives, priorities, and actionable work.
  • ·         Monitor project execution and proactively address scope, timeline, resource, dependency, and delivery risks.
  • ·         Maintain visibility into project status and ensure stakeholders understand priorities, responsibilities, and next steps.


Agile Project Leadership

  • ·         Facilitate Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • ·         Partner with technical stakeholders to maintain clear priorities and appropriately structured project backlogs.
  • ·         Track commitments, action items, blockers, and dependencies and drive them through resolution.
  • ·         Adapt project management methodology based on project needs while maintaining appropriate structure, documentation, and accountability.
  • ·         Promote continuous improvement in project planning, estimation, communication, and delivery processes.


Client & Stakeholder Communication


  • ·         Lead project meetings with internal stakeholders, clients, vendors, and external partners.
  • ·         Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, delays, and decisions clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • ·         Facilitate difficult conversations regarding missed commitments, changing requirements, project risks, and delivery expectations.
  • ·         Provide proactive project updates without requiring leadership follow-up.
  • ·         Ensure decisions, responsibilities, deadlines, and next steps are clearly documented and communicated.

Project Governance & Reporting

  • ·         Track and report project progress, outcomes, and key performance indicators.
  • ·         Partner with leadership to develop and improve Development and Automation project-management standards and KPIs.
  • ·         Maintain accurate project documentation, SOPs, implementation resources, and project records.
  • ·         Identify opportunities to improve project-management processes, workflows, reporting, and cross-functional coordination.

Ownership & Leadership

  • ·         Drive projects forward with a high degree of independence and professional judgment.
  • ·         Anticipate risks and roadblocks and escalate issues early with recommended solutions.
  • ·         Hold stakeholders accountable for commitments and deliverables, including individuals who do not directly report to this position.
  • ·         Build effective working relationships across Development, Automation, IT Services, RCM Services, clients, vendors, and leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • ·         Demonstrated professional experience directly managing software development, software implementation, automation, or comparable technical projects.
  • ·         Hands-on experience facilitating Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews.
  • ·         Strong working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall project-management methodologies and the ability to apply the appropriate methodology based on project needs.
  • ·         Experience using technical project-management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, MS Project, or comparable platforms.
  • ·         Experience coordinating cross-functional teams that include both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • ·         Strong professional spoken and written English, with the ability to independently lead client-facing meetings and communicate technical project information to nontechnical audiences.
  • ·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, priorities, dependencies, and deadlines.
  • ·         Proven success working independently in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ·         PMP certification strongly preferred.
  • ·         Other recognized project management or Agile certifications, such as PMI-ACP, Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), PRINCE2, or equivalent.
  • ·         Experience managing SaaS, healthcare technology, workflow automation, systems integration, or software implementation projects.
  • ·         Experience working directly with software developers, QA, product owners, business analysts, or similar technical functions.
  • ·         Experience managing external client or vendor implementations.
  • ·         Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycle management or healthcare technology.

Remote Work Requirements

  • ·         Ability to maintain consistent responsiveness and availability throughout established working hours.

Success in This Role

Success means becoming a trusted project leader who brings structure, visibility, and accountability to technical initiatives while enabling Development, Automation, Operations, clients, and leadership to work effectively together.

 

During onboarding, a structured development plan will establish 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, 6-month, and 1-year expectations.

 

By the end of the first year, a successful Technical Project Manager will:

  • ·         Independently manage multiple software, automation, and technical projects from planning through delivery.
  • ·         Effectively facilitate Agile ceremonies and maintain clear project priorities, commitments, and dependencies.
  • ·         Maintain accurate project plans, timelines, risks, and status reporting.
  • ·         Identify and resolve project risks and roadblocks before they materially affect delivery.
  • ·         Lead effective client and stakeholder meetings with minimal leadership intervention.
  • ·         Establish strong working relationships across Development, Automation, Operations, IT Services, clients, vendors, and leadership.
  • ·         Improve visibility and accountability for project commitments and deliverables.
  • ·         Contribute to standardized project-management processes, documentation, reporting, and performance measures.
  • ·         Consistently demonstrate independent judgment, proactive communication, and ownership of project outcomes.

This Role May Not Be a Fit for Someone Who

  • ·         Has primarily managed operational or administrative projects without direct software or technical project experience.
  • ·         Has studied Agile/Scrum methodology but has limited experience actually facilitating Agile ceremonies.
  • ·         Prefers highly structured daily direction or waits for assignments before identifying next steps.
  • ·         Is uncomfortable independently leading meetings with clients, technical teams, or senior stakeholders.
  • ·         Avoids difficult conversations involving project risks, missed deadlines, or accountability.
  • ·         Prefers individual-contributor work over cross-functional project leadership.

 

Availability during Eastern Time business hours is required.

 

Candidate must have a reliable home network and remote working environment.

Starting Pay: KSH 750/hour
