Job Description/Requirements
A Radio sonographer at Gilgil Specialist Hospital will be responsible for high-quality radiological services using ultrasound technology and providing accurate diagnostic information to assist in patient care. The position holder will work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to perform diagnostic procedures, obtain and interpret images, and assist in patient care. Your primary goal will be to deliver accurate and timely radiographic results to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform Radiography Procedures
• Conduct ultrasound examinations as prescribed by physicians or other healthcare providers.
• Operate ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic images of specified body areas, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
• Prepare patients for procedures, explain the process, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
• Conduct high-quality sonographic examinations using ultrasound equipment.
• Embrace Gilgil Specialist Hospital’s standards and treatment protocols by going above and beyond to ensure compliance with the set minimum standards of ensuring quality, affordable, and accessible health care services.
Image Interpretation and Reporting
• Analyze and interpret ultrasound images to identify normal and abnormal structures or pathology.
• Generate accurate and detailed reports of findings, including image documentation and measurement data.
• Consult with other healthcare providers to discuss and clarify complex findings or obtain additional information as required.
Equipment Maintenance and Quality Control
• Ensure the proper functioning of ultrasound equipment by performing regular maintenance and minor repairs.
• Adhere to quality control and assurance procedures to maintain optimal imaging standards.
• Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and ensure their availability for uninterrupted operations.
Patient Care and Communication
• Provide compassionate care to patients during procedures, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
• Effectively communicate with patients, addressing any concerns or questions they may have and providing clear instructions.
• Position patients correctly to obtain the best possible images.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care, including scheduling appointments and discussing results.
Data Management
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient information, examination details, and results.
• Ensure proper labelling and storage of images for future reference and archiving.
• Document and maintain accurate records of patient procedures and outcomes.
Compliance and Documentation
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including medical history, procedural details, and results.
• Comply with all regulatory guidelines, ethical standards, and safety protocols governing radiological procedures.
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated with the latest advancements in radiography.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
• Higher Diploma in Ultrasound
• Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences
• Registered and with a valid license from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
• Member of the Society of Radiography in Kenya (SOKR)
• Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)
Experience
• At least two(2) years working experience.
Skills And Competencies
• Strong knowledge of ultrasound technology, equipment operation, and image interpretation.
• Familiarity with various ultrasound techniques and protocols.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to patient-centered care and maintaining confidentiality.
