Job Summary:

As a Nurse at Gilgil Specialist Hospital, you will be a key member of the healthcare team, providing comprehensive and patient-centered care to individuals seeking medical services. You will contribute to the clinic’s mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services. Your role will involve patient care, assisting in medical procedures, administering treatments, educating patients on health issues, collaborating with the healthcare team, and adhering to quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

·        Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and psychological health.

·        Administer medications, treatments, and therapies following prescribed protocols.

·        Monitor patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and reactions to medications or treatments.

·        Provide wound care, including dressing changes and management of infection control.

·        Assist with minor surgical procedures and perform basic medical procedures, such as venipuncture and IV therapy.

·        Collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.


Patient Education

·        Educate patients on preventive healthcare measures, treatment options, and medication management.

·        Provide guidance and support to patients and their families regarding disease management and

lifestyle modifications.

·        Offer counselling on reproductive health, family planning, and sexual health.

·        Conduct health promotion activities and community outreach programs to raise awareness about common health issues.


Documentation and Record Keeping

·        Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records of patients’ assessments, treatments, and progress.

·        Document medications administered, dosages, and patient responses.

·        Ensure confidentiality of patient information and adhere to data protection regulations.


Team Collaboration 

·        Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, and laboratory technologists, to coordinate patient care.

·        Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment plans.

·        Contribute to the development and implementation of healthcare policies and procedures.


Quality Assurance and Compliance

·        Adhere to clinical guidelines, infection control protocols, and occupational health and safety standards.

·        Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and outcome evaluations.

  

Continuous learning

·        Stay updated on the latest advancements in nursing practice through continuing education and professional development activities.

 

Academic and Professional Qualifications

·        Diploma in Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)

·        Registered with a Valid nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)

·        Certificate in Basic Life Support(BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support(ACLS)

·        Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)

·        Theatre training(as theatre nurse) is an added advantage


Experience

·        At least five (5) years of clinical working experience.


Skills and Competencies

·        Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

·        Proficiency in administering medications and performing medical procedures.

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·        Empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.

·        Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with healthcare professionals.

·        Strong organizational and time management abilities.

·        Knowledge of healthcare regulations and best practices.

·        Proficiency in computer applications for documentation and record-keeping.
