RUBBER TYRED GANTRY (RTG) OPERATOR
Job summary
The RTG Operator is responsible for operating large mobile gantry cranes used primarily in container terminals and ports to stack, organize, and move shipping containers within the yard grids.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Safely operate RTG cranes to load, unload, stack, and sort shipping containers within designated yard blocks.
- Maintain constant communication with ground personnel, checkers, and yard planners to ensure efficient, accurate container placement.
- Conduct daily pre-operational safety inspections and routine maintenance checks, reporting any mechanical defects immediately.
- Safely interface with computerized cabin control systems to verify container coordinates and execution commands.
- Ensure total adherence to port speed limits, clearance safety zones, and operational guidelines.
- KCSE C- (Minus) or its recognized equivalent.
- Valid NTSA driving license of class B, C, E with a Forklift endorsement.
- Must hold a valid Gantry Crane Operator Certificate plus at least one of the following:
- Terminal Tractor Driving Certificate
- Top Loader Driving Certificate
- Winch Crane Operations Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role. Prior experience operating within Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) installations is a distinct advantage.
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness; robust knowledge of container terminal layouts and port safety protocols.
- Full physical and medical fitness certification; proficient ICT skills with the ability to operate computerized terminal equipment.
