The Transport & Fleet Manager will oversee Kenya transport and fleet operations, optimizing vehicle availability, utilization, route efficiency and fuel productivity. The role will manage own and rented fleets, control transport costs, improve operational efficiency and deliver measurable savings across distribution operations.

Role Objective
Manage complete transport and fleet operations, ensuring optimum vehicle availability, utilization, route efficiency and fuel productivity while continuously reducing transportation costs across own fleet, rented fleet and company vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan vehicle requirements according to business volumes, routes and distribution plans.
- Optimize vehicle deployment and identify excess, idle and under-utilized vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle kilometres, trips, load utilization, idle time, cost per kilometre, cost per trip and availability.
- Monitor daily fuel consumption, KM/Litre, fuel issuance and fuel card usage while identifying abnormal consumption and leakage.
- Optimize delivery routes to reduce distance, empty kilometres, waiting time, multiple trips and overtime.
- Manage rented transporters, monitor agreed rates and service levels, and evaluate own versus rented fleet economics.
- Ensure preventive maintenance, monitor breakdowns and downtime, and control repair, tyre and battery costs.
- Maintain vehicle documentation and monitor insurance, licences, fitness, statutory requirements and driver performance.
- Work with Finance to control fuel, repairs, rentals, driver, tyre, insurance and other transport costs.
- Support transporter negotiations, rate benchmarking and implementation of transport cost-saving initiatives.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly fleet dashboards covering utilization, availability, fuel efficiency, route efficiency, downtime, R&M costs and transport productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Transport Management or a relevant Transport and Logistics qualification.
- MBA or additional relevant qualification is an advantage.
- 7–10 years’ experience in fleet or transport management.
- FMCG, dairy, beverage or distribution experience preferred.
- Experience managing large vehicle fleets and rented transporters.
- Strong understanding of fleet economics, fuel optimization and transport cost management.
- Strong Excel and MIS skills; GPS or fleet management systems experience preferred.
