Position Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's financial records, preparing accurate financial reports, ensuring statutory compliance, overseeing budgeting and cash flow, and supporting management with financial analysis and decision-making. The ideal candidate must have prior experience in a Real Estate and/or Property Development environment and possess a strong understanding of project accounting and property finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and manage the company's cash position.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in compliance with IFRS and company policies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Prepare and process payroll and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions.
- Prepare and file statutory returns including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, and corporate tax.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, regulatory authorities, banks and other business partners.
- Monitor interparty transactions and ensure proper book keeping, reporting and compliance by the company’s subsidiaries and associates.
- Monitor rental income, service charge collections, tenant deposits, and arrears.
- Prepare management accounts and financial performance reports for senior Management.
· Safeguard company assets: safe keeping of documents of title and related records, maintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset capitalization and depreciation.
· Support financial planning, project documentation and reporting for ongoing property development projects.
· Monitor project costs against approved budgets and report on variances.
- Develop and strengthen internal controls and financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable financial regulations.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA(K) Finalist or CPA(K) qualification is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a real estate, property management, or property development company.
- Demonstrated experience in project accounting and development cost management will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience preparing management reports and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
