Job Description/Requirements

Position: Business Development Manager

Reporting To: Head of Distribution / Group Sales Director
Location: Regional Coverage (e.g., Nyanza & Western, or as assigned)
Employment Type: Full-Time

 

Overall Purpose of the Role

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving growth, expanding market presence, and leading strategic business initiatives within the assigned region. This role demands a strong blend of strategic thinking, relationship management, and leadership to achieve business objectives, enhance client acquisition, and ensure sustainable revenue growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement the regional business strategy aligned with the company’s overall corporate goals.
  • Identify market opportunities, emerging trends, and potential risks to drive profitability and market penetration.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, industry developments, and competitor activities to adapt strategies proactively.

2. Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, focusing on corporate, commercial, and high-net-worth segments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including corporate clients, brokers, partners, and institutional investors.
  • Design and execute targeted sales campaigns and promotional initiatives to attract and retain clients.
  • Explore strategic partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures to enhance regional presence and service offerings.
  • Conduct thorough market research to understand client needs and tailor products and solutions accordingly.

3. Client Relationship Management

  • Establish and nurture long-term relationships with corporate and high-net-worth clients.
  • Conduct regular client reviews, providing insights on portfolio performance, market updates, and tailored recommendations.
  • Collaborate with client service teams to ensure prompt resolution of inquiries and exceptional service delivery.
  • Organize client engagement events, seminars, and forums to strengthen relationships and enhance brand loyalty.

4. Product Innovation & Development

  • Drive product innovation by identifying gaps and opportunities in the market.
  • Work closely with the product development team to design and launch new insurance and financial solutions.
  • Ensure the region remains competitive by leveraging industry trends and technological advancements.

5. Corporate Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and communicate implications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and ethical business practices.

6. Leadership & Team Development

  • Foster a high-performance culture based on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the regional sales team, setting clear targets and providing regular feedback.
  • Encourage a client-centric mindset across the team to ensure consistent service excellence.
  • Promote professional growth and skill enhancement within the team.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Professional qualifications such as AIIK, ACII, or similar will be a distinct advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in sales, marketing, business development, or relationship management, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
  • Experience in managing corporate and high-net-worth client portfolios.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop compelling business cases and strategic plans.
  • Open, collaborative, and ethical leadership style.
  • Results-driven with a proven ability to lead change and drive growth.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM systems.
