Job Description/Requirements
- Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery and Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery specialized in pediatrics.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in pediatric clinical practice.
- Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Team-oriented and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Passion for community health and child wellness.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat pediatric patients.
- Prescribe and administer appropriate medication and treatment.
- Manage acute and chronic childhood illnesses.
- Conduct minor procedures and ensure accurate documentation.
- Support growth monitoring, immunization, and nutrition programs.
- Provide health education to parents and caregivers.
- Maintain accurate medical records and submit regular reports.
- Collaborate with other clinic staff and participate in team meetings.
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat pediatric patients.
- Prescribe and administer appropriate medication and treatment.
- Manage both acute and chronic childhood illnesses.
- Conduct patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within the scope of practice.
- Undertake continuous evaluation of patients’ response to treatment and modify care plans as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality in all service delivery.
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards of clinical practice at all times.
- Conduct growth monitoring, immunizations, and nutrition assessments.
- Provide health education and counselling to parents and caregivers.
- Participate in community health outreach programs and health awareness campaigns.
- Advocate for child health, nutrition, and safety within the community.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient medical records.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports by email in addition to local reporting standards.
- Ensure proper documentation in accordance with Ministry of Health (MOH) standards.
- Use Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Teams) for reports and communication.
- Communicate regularly via email, phone, or video meetings to update on clinic operations.
- Work closely with nurses, laboratory technologists, nutritionists, and other health staff.
- Collaborate effectively in a mixed Kenyan-foreign medical service team, sharing clinical responsibilities with visiting pediatrics specialists.
- Participate in weekly online or physical team meetings for case reviews and progress updates.
- Supervise and mentor interns or student clinical officers attached to the clinic.
- Liaise with other healthcare providers, laboratories, and referral centres to ensure continuity of care.
- Use social media and digital platforms (WhatsApp, video calls, etc.) to carry out telemedicine consultations and cross-consultations with specialists.
- Ensure timely communication and follow-up on referred cases.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment.
- Ensure proper medical waste disposal in line with established procedures.
- Promote patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Stay updated on medical developments, new drugs, treatments, and complementary medicine.
- Provide guidance and counselling to clients on health matters.
- Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, guidelines, and relevant legislation.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Clinic In-Charge or Management.
