ROLE SUMMARY
Our client, a level 4 hospital based in Kericho County has retained our services to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Renal Nurse. The Renal Nurse will support safe, patient-centred dialysis care by preparing patients for treatment, monitoring them during procedures, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, and providing education to patients and caregivers. The role also supports quality improvement, infection prevention, and proper maintenance and handling of dialysis-related supplies and equipment.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess, prepare, and counsel patients before dialysis treatment.
Initiate, monitor, and document dialysis sessions in line with approved clinical protocols.
Monitor vital signs and patient responses throughout treatment and promptly escalate any complications.
Provide care for vascular access (e.g., AV fistula/graft/catheter), including observation, basic care, and reporting abnormalities.
Administer prescribed medications and IV therapies as per physician instructions and institutional policy.
Maintain accurate nursing notes, dialysis charts, incident reports, and other required unit documentation.
Uphold infection prevention and control standards, including aseptic technique and safe waste disposal.
Support maintenance of dialysis consumables and participate in stock monitoring and timely requisitions.
Educate patients and caregivers on renal disease management, treatment plans, diet/fluids guidance (within scope), and follow-up care.
Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, and continuing professional development within the unit.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the management from time to time.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Interested applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Valid nursing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Certification/training in renal nursing and dialysis is mandatory.
Minimum of 4 years' nursing experience in a hospital set-up; renal/dialysis unit experience is highly preferred.
Basic computer literacy and ability to work with hospital information systems.
Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to patient safety.
