HEAD OF FINANCE
Job summary
Our client, a Tier 1 Deposit-Taking SACCO, has retained Skills Global Limited to recruit a seasoned Head of Finance to provide strategic and operational leadership of the Society’s finance function. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Finance will oversee financial management, reporting, budgeting, treasury, internal controls, compliance and financial risk management to support prudent growth and institutional sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic financial leadership and translate corporate objectives into effective financial policies, frameworks and operational plans.
• Lead, coach and develop the Finance team, promoting accuracy, accountability, integrity and continuous improvement.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely accounting records in strict compliance with relevant legislation, IFRS, SASRA guidelines, and internal policies.
• Prepare and present financial statements, management accounts, Board reports and statutory reports on a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual basis.
• Oversee treasury management, cash-flow forecasting, liquidity management, investment monitoring and financial risk management.
• Prepare, monitor and control the Society’s revenue, capital and expenditure budgets in line with approved plans.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax obligations, internal controls, SASRA requirements, KRA requirements and applicable co-operative society legislation.
• Liaise with external auditors, KRA, banks, SASRA and other relevant institutions on financial, tax, audit and regulatory matters.
• Oversee the Fixed Assets Register, investment portfolio performance, and emerging financial risks, providing timely and proactive advice to management.
• Promptly alert the Chief Executive Officer and Board to material financial irregularities, control weaknesses, emerging risks or areas of non-compliance.
• Manage banking relationships and capital-market engagements to support the Society’s funding strategy and growth plans.
• Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer in the formulation, implementation and performance monitoring of the Society’s strategic plan.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in business related field from a recognized university; a Master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage.
- CPA(K) and active membership in good standing with ICPAK.
- At least 10 years relevant working experience; of which at least two must be at the level of senior management.
- Deep, demonstrable knowledge of SASRA regulations, IFRS, and the Co-operative Societies Act.
- Proven track record in financial reporting, budget management, treasury operations, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in ERP or core banking systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with Navision or equivalent is an advantage.
- Strategic financial thinking, strong commercial acumen and sound business judgement.
- Exceptional analytical and numerical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information.
- Unimpeachable integrity, professional independence and the confidence to challenge at all levels.
