Job descriptions & requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of client networks (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points)
- Support day-to-day helpdesk and remote/on-site troubleshooting for client IT issues
- Help monitor network performance and respond to alerts/incidents
- Assist with configuration and basic administration of firewalls (e.g., FortiGate, MikroTik)
- Support server and virtualization environments (Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware/Hyper-V) under supervision
- Assist with backup, email infrastructure, and cybersecurity-related tasks
- Document network configurations, changes, and client site information
- Travel to client sites within Mombasa and occasionally other regions as required
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers and follow through until resolution
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing/switching concepts)
- Familiarity with Windows Server and/or Active Directory environments is an added advantage
- Exposure to firewalls, switches, or wireless equipment (MikroTik, FortiGate, Ubiquiti, Cisco, etc.) is a plus
- Basic knowledge of virtualization concepts (VMware, Hyper-V) is an advantage but not mandatory
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills and a professional, client-facing attitude
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team
- Valid driving license (added advantage, for client site visits)
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA (in progress or completed), or MikroTik MTCNA are a strong plus but not required
