ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) was formally established in 2013 to fill a critical niche as an overall umbrella body for the Mara conservancies. MMWCA is open to any existing or upcoming wildlife conservancy whose land is part of or integral to the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem.

JOB SUMMARY

The Rangeland Officer will play a key role in advancing sustainable grazing management and rangeland restoration under the OMCP Mara Carbon CLG. This position is responsible for guiding community-driven grazing plans and monitoring rangeland health. They will also ensure the effective implementation of key activities that contribute to ecosystem regeneration and carbon sequestration in the Greater Mara Ecosystem. Working closely with pastoral communities, conservancies, and technical teams, the Rangeland Officer will lead field-based assessments, support data collection for carbon methodologies, strengthen community capacity, and help integrate Indigenous knowledge into rangeland management. This role will also contribute to technical reporting, learning, and representation of the project in relevant rangeland and conservation forums.RequiredBachelor’s degree in Rangeland Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related fieldMinimum of 3–5 years of experience in rangeland or pastoralist systemsStrong understanding of carbon projects, grazing plan development, grazing systems review, and community-based conservationProficiency in GIS, GPS, and remote sensing tools for land monitoringExcellent facilitation, communication, and report-writing skillsFluency in English and KiswahiliPreferredMaster’s degree in a relevant fieldExperience working in Kenya’s pastoralist landscapesExperience working with pastoral communities and conservanciesPlease submit your CV, cover letter, and three references detailing your qualifications and experience to the Email provided with the subject line: “Application – Rangeland Officer, OMCP” 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Oversight & ImplementationOversee the development and execution of project implementation plans in alignment with project objectives and carbon standardsSupervise field teams and service providers to ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality delivery of all project activitiesOversee the successful implementation of project work plans, ensuring progress toward key milestones and donor deliverablesEnsuring active communication on project delivery and timely monitoring of project milestonesLeadership & Organizational DevelopmentThe CEO will serve as the principal leader and strategic driver of the organization, responsible for advancing its mission, deepening community impact, and ensuring organizational sustainability. This role combines visionary leadership, operational oversight, and grassroots relationship-building to mobilize resources and partnerships for long-term environmental and community resilienceBuild and manage the core team; develop and implement a fit-for-purpose organizational structureEstablish and operationalize the OMCP project office, including infrastructure, logistics, and systemsOversee and support the transition to the new OMCP entity, including legal registration, and act as an active board memberStakeholder & Community EngagementBuild and maintain strong relationships with all project partners, including local communities, conservancy leadership, and opinion leadersServe as the primary liaison between OMCP and stakeholders, including the county and national governmentCommunicate project goals and updates in a culturally sensitive and strategic manner.Resolve conflicts between stakeholders constructively and foster collaboration.Represent OMCP at local and national government platformsGovernance & ComplianceSupport legal setup and governance structures for the OMCP entity.Ensure compliance with national regulations and carbon standardsMaintain transparency with the Board, ensure effective decision-making, and provide regular updates.Ultimately responsible for the successful validation and ongoing verification of the One MaraCarbon Project and the issuance of carbon creditsFinancial ManagementOversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring alignment with project goals.Ensure fiscal responsibility, proper procurement practices, and compliance with internal controls.Support financial audits and manage risk across all financial operations.Support carbon credit sales and raise investmentMonitoring, Evaluation & ReportingEnsure strong M&E systems are in place to track project progress, outcomes, and impacts in compliance with appropriate carbon standards, particularly VerraLead the preparation of high-quality reports and presentations for the board and partnersUse data and evidence to inform decision-making and improve project performance
