SHIP TO SHORE (STS) GANTRY OPERATOR
Job summary
The STS Gantry Operator operates Shore-to-Ship Gantry Cranes for the discharge and/or loading of deep-sea feeder vessels in the port within given safety and operational policies and procedures in the most efficient way possible.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Manipulate crane controls to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movements to load or discharge containers safely.
- Verify that the crane’s load is perfectly balanced and securely locked via spreaders before initiating movement to prevent personnel injury or cargo damage.
- Conduct regular pre- and post-operation inspections of the STS Crane, documenting and reporting any abnormalities or vessel damage immediately.
- Maintain continuous crane operations by participating in "hot seat" changeovers during shift transitions and operator rest breaks.
- Perform basic first-line maintenance on the crane when the need arises to minimize idle time.
- Complete job reports after each operation and maintain the operator’s cabin and cabin lift in a clean, tidy condition.
- KCSE C- (Minus) or its recognized equivalent.
- Valid NTSA driving license of class B, C, E with a Forklift endorsement.
- Must possess a Gantry Crane Operator Certificate along with at least one of the following:
- Terminal Tractor Driving Certificate
- Top Loader Driving Certificate
- Winch Crane Operations Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role. Direct operational experience within Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) installations is a distinct advantage.
- Must be certified physically and medically fit; possess intermediate ICT skills to interface with computerized crane systems
