JOB TITLE: GENERAL MANAGER (READY - MIX CONCRETE)
NATURE OF JOB: FULL TIME
INDUSTRY: CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
SALARY: USD 1,400-1,700 PLUS INCENTIVES
JOB LOCATION: MALAWI

All travel logistics will be catered for plus accommodation is provided.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
  • Develop and execute business strategies aligned with organizational goals and market opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Drive revenue growth and profitability while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments.

Operations Management
  • Oversee daily operations of batching plants to ensure optimal productivity and minimal downtime.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling, dispatch, and delivery of concrete products.
  • Manage plant maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Implement operational best practices to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Fleet & Logistics Management
  • Supervise fleet operations including transit mixers, pumps, and support vehicles.
  • Optimize route planning, fuel consumption, and vehicle utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and maintenance standards.
  • Manage logistics teams to ensure timely and accurate deliveries to clients.

Quality Control & Compliance
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality standards and mix design specifications.
  • Oversee laboratory testing and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain compliance with local regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
  • Address and resolve quality-related issues and customer complaints promptly.

Commercial & Client Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, contractors, and developers.
  • Lead contract negotiations, pricing strategies, and service agreements.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to achieve revenue targets.

Financial Management
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Monitor financial performance, including cost control, margins, and profitability.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or service delivery.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with company policies.

Team Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing management and operational team.
  • Establish clear performance objectives and KPIs across departments.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and workforce planning.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the ready-mix concrete industry.
  • Proven experience managing batching plants, fleet operations, logistics, and quality control functions.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in client relationship management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a senior management role.
  • Strong operational and strategic management skills
  • Excellent leadership and team-building capabilities
  • High level of organization and problem-solving ability
