Machine Operator - Manufacturing
Job summary
The machine operator will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining industrial machines used in the production of steel products and structural components. Their primary objective is to ensure production targets are met while maintaining product quality and workplace safety.

Machine Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor production machinery in accordance with production schedules and work instructions.
- Adjust machine settings to meet product specifications and production requirements.
- Ensure machines are operating efficiently and safely throughout each production run.
- Monitor machine performance and identify any abnormalities during operation.
Production
- Produce components that meet required quality and dimensional specifications.
- Read and interpret production orders, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Achieve daily production targets while minimizing material waste.

Load raw materials and unload finished products safely and efficiently.Quality Control
- Inspect finished products using appropriate measuring tools such as tape measures, vernier calipers, and gauges.
- Conduct routine in-process quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Identify defective products and report quality issues promptly.

Maintain accurate production and quality records.Machine Maintenance
- Perform routine machine inspections before, during, and after operation.
- Carry out basic preventive maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of assigned equipment.
- Report machine faults, breakdowns, or maintenance requirements to the Maintenance Department.

Assist maintenance personnel during repairs where required.Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and manufacturing standards.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.

Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.Inventory & Material Handling
- Handle raw materials and finished products carefully to prevent damage.
- Ensure proper storage and movement of materials within the production area.

Minimize material wastage through efficient machine operation.Team Collaboration
- Work closely with supervisors, quality inspectors, maintenance technicians, and fellow operators to achieve production objectives.
- Participate in shift handovers by communicating machine status and production progress.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and reducing downtime
- Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Welding and Fabrication Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering (Production Option)
- Sheet Metal Technology, or Metal Processing Technology from a recognized TVET institution, with a NITA Trade Test Grade III, II, or I
- Minimum of 2–3 years of practical experience operating sheet metal fabrication
- machines, including:
- Press brake (bending) machines
- Guillotine (shearing) machines
- Notching machines
- Folding machines
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience setting up, operating, and adjusting machines to produce components
- according to specifications.
- Experience performing quality checks using measuring tools such as vernier calipers,
- steel rules and angle gauges.
- Experience carrying out routine machine maintenance and reporting mechanical
- faults.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures in a manufacturing or
- fabrication environment.
