We're hiring a Management Accountant to lead day-to-day finance operations — bookkeeping, payroll, statutory compliance, management accounts, and donor/grant reporting. You'll help consolidate and streamline our finance systems as we grow. CPA/ACCA required. Reports to the CEO and CTO. Nairobi-based, full-time.

Role Purpose
The Management Accountant will play a leading role in CHAJI's day-to-day finance function — from bookkeeping and payments through to payroll, statutory compliance, preparation of management accounts, grant reporting, and audit preparation. The role works closely with the CEO and CTO, who provide strategic financial oversight, while the Management Accountant manages execution and operational finance.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys managing the full finance cycle end-to-end, and who wants to help consolidate, strengthen, and streamline CHAJI's accounting systems and processes as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date books of accounts (Zoho Books), including monthly bank reconciliations and proper coding to accounts, cost centres, and projects/grants
- Process supplier/vendor payments, manage petty cash and M-Pesa float, and monitor bank balances and cashflow
- Process monthly payroll and remit statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy) on time
- Prepare and maintain the annual budget and rolling cashflow forecasts
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow Statement)
- Track grant income/expenditure against donor budgets and prepare donor financial reports
- Ensure full statutory compliance and prepare the company for annual audit
- Help evolve accounting software, consolidate finance processes, and identify automation opportunities
- Maintain finance policies and internal controls
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or ACCA qualification (finalist or fully qualified)
- Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, having managed core parts of a finance function end-to-end
- Demonstrated experience preparing management accounts and supporting audits
- Strong working knowledge of Kenyan tax law and statutory requirements (KRA, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Sage, or similar)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience processing payroll independently, including statutory filings via iTax
Preferred
- Experience with donor-funded grants and donor financial reporting
- Experience in a small or growing organisation
- Track record of improving accounting systems and processes
- Familiarity with multi-project or fund accounting
