Materials Laboratory Technician
Job summary
The Senior Materials Laboratory Technician will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day laboratory testing operations, ensuring accurate sampling and testing of construction materials, maintaining testing equipment, preparing reports, and supporting quality control in line with relevant standards and project requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Conduct laboratory and field testing of construction materials including soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, water, and related materials.
· Supervise sample receipt, identification, preparation, testing, recording, and storage.
· Ensure all testing is carried out in accordance with applicable BS, EN, ASTM, or other relevant standards.
· Operate, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and calibration status.
· Review and verify test results before submission.
· Prepare clear, accurate, and timely laboratory reports.
· Support implementation of laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures.
· Maintain proper laboratory records, registers, and test documentation.
· Ensure good housekeeping, safety, and compliance within the laboratory and field testing environment.
· Supervise junior technicians and laboratory assistants where applicable.
· Assist in planning laboratory consumables, materials, and equipment needs.
· Coordinate field sampling and in-situ testing activities as required.
· Report technical issues, non-conformities, and equipment breakdowns to management promptly.
Qualifications and Requirements
· Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field.
· Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a construction materials testing laboratory.
· Strong practical experience in concrete, soil, aggregate, and asphalt testing.
· Good understanding of laboratory quality procedures and standard test methods.
· Ability to interpret test procedures and prepare professional reports.
· Experience in handling laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration coordination will be an added advantage.
· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
· Computer literacy, especially in MS Word and Excel.
· High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.

· Willingness to support both laboratory and field assignments.
· Familiarity with setting up or working in a growing materials testing laboratory is an added advantage.
