Position: Senior Accountant – Multi-Branch Hospital Operations
Reports To : Chief Executive Officer / Finance Director

Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and overseeing all accounting and financial operations across all hospital branches. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory and tax requirements, strong internal controls, efficient cash flow management, and optimal utilization of Hospital Information Management Systems (HIMS). The incumbent will provide financial insights to support management decisions while ensuring financial sustainability and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management
- Oversee the accounting functions of all hospital branches.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Consolidate branch financial reports into group accounts.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
- Maintain the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts.
- Prepare management accounts and financial performance reports.
2. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Coordinate annual budgeting for all branches.
- Monitor budgets and analyze variances.
- Prepare financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Advise management on cost optimization and profitability improvement.
3. Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all tax regulations.
- Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax, Withholding Tax and other statutory returns.
- Liaise with tax authorities during audits and assessments.
- Ensure timely payment of statutory deductions.
- Keep management updated on changes in tax legislation.
4. Hospital Information Management System (HIMS)
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Hospital Information Management Systems (HIMS).
- Ensure integration between HIMS and accounting systems.
- Monitor billing accuracy, patient revenue, insurance claims and collections.
- Train and support users on financial modules.
- Improve workflows through system optimization and automation.
5. Revenue Cycle Management
- Monitor patient billing and revenue collection.
- Reconcile insurance claims and reimbursements.
- Improve debt collection processes.
- Minimize revenue leakages across all branches.
6. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Design and implement strong internal controls.
- Conduct periodic financial reviews and branch audits.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Safeguard company assets.
7. Audit Management
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Implement audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable accounting standards.
8. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Monitor liquidity across all branches.
- Optimize receivables, payables and inventory.
- Manage banking relationships.
- Prepare daily and weekly cash flow reports.
9. Leadership & Branch Support
- Supervise accountants and finance staff across branches.
- Conduct performance reviews and mentorship.
- Standardize accounting procedures across all locations.
- Provide financial support to branch managers.
10. Strategic Decision Support
- Provide financial analysis for new investments and expansion.
- Develop business cases for capital expenditure.
- Prepare Board and Management financial reports.
- Support strategic planning initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Membership in the relevant professional body is added advantage.
- Master's Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years' progressive accounting experience.
- At least 5 years in a senior finance role.
- Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
- Experience managing finance across multiple branches.
