Our client in the hospitality industry is looking to hire and Accountant who will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the restaurant and conference facility, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, statutory compliance, and sound financial management. The role supports management by providing timely financial information, maintaining robust internal controls, and overseeing revenue reconciliation from restaurant, conference, and events operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Manage the general ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
- Perform monthly bank, cash, and ledger reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts.
Revenue Management
- Reconcile daily restaurant sales from the Point of Sale (POS) system with cash, mobile money, card, and bank receipts.
- Verify conference room, meeting room, and event revenues against bookings and invoices.
- Ensure all revenues are accurately captured and deposited.
- Investigate and resolve revenue discrepancies promptly.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Maintain accounts payable and receivable schedules.
- Follow up on outstanding customer balances and credit accounts.
- Reconcile supplier and customer statements.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor departmental expenditure against approved budgets.
- Analyze food and beverage costs and recommend cost-saving measures.
- Monitor inventory costs and wastage in collaboration with operational departments.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Work closely with the Stores and Procurement teams to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Participate in periodic stock counts for food, beverages, operating supplies, and assets.
- Reconcile inventory variances and investigate discrepancies.
- Ensure proper valuation of inventory.
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare or support payroll processing and ensure salary payments are accurate and timely.
- Ensure compliance with statutory deductions including PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, and other applicable taxes.
- Prepare and file statutory returns within prescribed deadlines.
- Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain effective internal financial controls and safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly revenue reports.
- Analyze financial performance, profitability, and operational costs.
- Generate key performance reports
- Provide management with financial insights to support decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification will be an added advantage
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably within the hospitality, restaurant, hotel, or events industry.
- Experience working with accounting software and POS systems.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.
- Strong financial reporting and accounting skills.
- Experience in hospitality revenue reconciliation and cost control.
- Knowledge of inventory and stock management.
- Budgeting and financial analysis skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity.
