Job summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Customs Clearance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing import and export customs clearance processes, ensuring compliance with Kenyan customs regulations, and facilitating the timely clearance of cargo.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional qualification in Customs Administration or Clearing and Forwarding is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, logistics, or international trade.
- Practical experience with KRA Customs Systems (iCMS).
- Good understanding of customs valuation, tariff classification, rules of origin, and import/export procedures.
- Knowledge of customs documentation, including Import Declaration Forms (IDF), Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Certificates of Origin, and relevant permits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience working with shipping lines, ports, and government regulatory agencies is an added advantage.
- Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, verify, and process customs documentation for imports and exports.
- Ensure compliance with the East African Community (EAC) Customs Management Act, Kenya Customs regulations, and other applicable trade laws.
- Process customs entries through the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs systems.
- Classify goods using the Harmonized System (HS) Code and determine the applicable customs duties and taxes.
- Liaise with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), shipping lines, clearing agents, freight forwarders, port authorities, and other regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate cargo inspections, verification, and release procedures.
- Monitor shipments to ensure timely customs clearance and delivery.
- Resolve customs clearance delays, discrepancies, and documentation issues.
- Maintain accurate customs records and prepare clearance reports.
- Advise management on changes in customs regulations and their impact on business operations.
- Ensure compliance with import and export licensing requirements.
- Support internal and external audits relating to customs documentation and transactions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customs officials, logistics partners, and government agencies.
