Job Summary
The Laboratory Equipment & Consumables Sales Representative is responsible for promoting, selling, and supporting laboratory instruments, reagents, and consumables to customers in research institutions, hospitals, universities, diagnostic laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and industrial laboratories. The role involves developing strong customer relationships, identifying new sales opportunities, and achieving sales targets while providing technical product knowledge and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
• Promote and sell laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents, and consumables to new and existing customers.
• Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities within assigned territory.
• Prepare and deliver product presentations and demonstrations to customers.
• Generate quotations, negotiate pricing, and close sales.
Customer Relationship Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with laboratory managers, researchers, procurement officers, and technical staff.
• Provide product advice and recommend suitable solutions based on customer needs.
• Follow up on customer inquiries, quotations, and orders.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
Technical Support
• Provide basic technical guidance on laboratory equipment and consumables.
• Coordinate installations, training, and after-sales support with technical teams.
• Keep customers informed about new products, promotions, and innovations.
Market Intelligence
• Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and market trends.
• Provide feedback to management on customer needs and product performance.
• Identify emerging opportunities in research, diagnostics, and industrial laboratories.
Sales Administration
• Maintain accurate records of customer interactions using the provided tools
• Prepare sales reports, forecasts, and territory plans.
• Assist in tender preparation and documentation where required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.
Experience
• 2–5 years of experience in scientific/laboratory product sales or laboratory work experience with interest in sales.
• Experience selling laboratory equipment, reagents, or consumables is highly preferred.
Technical Knowledge
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment such as:
o PCR and molecular biology tools
o Microscopes
o Centrifuges
o Pipettes and liquid handling
o Chromatography or analytical instruments (optional but advantageous)
Skills
• Strong sales and negotiation skills

• Ability to explain technical products to scientific customers

• Good organizational and time management abilities
Additional Requirements
• Willingness to travel frequently within Kenya.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
