Job Description/Requirements
- To promote the mission, aims, values and objectives of the organisation
- To be directly responsible for the charity’s operations and to oversee and ensure the success of all operations.
- To be accountable to the board for all the organisational affairs.
- To liaise with Directors about the strategic direction of Pursue and advise the Board accordingly, implementing any board decisions made.
- To oversee and implement fundraising initiatives to help Pursue move towards their goal of becoming self-reliant
- To be the key contact person and representative of Pursue when interacting with stakeholders
- Support the board and directors in developing and implementing the organisations’ strategic plan
- Oversee the implementation of all Pursue projects and ensure they are delivered effectively
- Keep up to date with new developments in the field of community and education development
- Develop and implement operational plans and policies.
- Ensure that the CBO’s policies and practices are up to date, relevant, compliant with regulation, and fair in the current environment
- Ensure that the CBO is managed and in keeping with current best practice.
- Regularly meet with directors and managers to review progress of implementation of strategic plans
- Ensure compliance with employment and equality legislation and accepted good practice.
- To liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (Trustee) regarding safeguarding policy and practice.
- To be the principal spokesperson for the Charity in all media including face to face opportunities with all stakeholders in order to promote the Charity’s mission and programmes.
- To ensure that the Charity communicates its messages clearly and persuasively through its written work, website and social media platforms.
- Regularly network with other organisations and share best practice
- Develop the Charity’s public profile, influence key stakeholders and develop or maintain good relationships with other charities, government and private sector agencies, as well as with guests, volunteers and the general public.
- Develop and deliver successful fundraising programmes
- Plan and implement successful income generating programmes for Pursue
- Research grant opportunities and complete grant applications
- Build the income streams and reserves of the CBO.
- Lead the Charity’s fundraising and promote the Charity to funders and the general public in order to secure the funding required to support the Charity.
- Be responsible for the devising and implementation of a robust Monitoring & Evaluation System
- Set key metrics and success indicators alongside colleagues to ensure each project has tangible markers of success
- Regularly monitor the progress of each project and feedback to directors and the board
- Work with colleagues to analyse and review all data collected, using this to inform future strategic decisions relating to all Pursue projects
- Through careful monitoring, identify challenges and barriers to success, and establish solutions to these challenges
- Work with the directors and trustees to formulate the annual budget
- Ensure that quarterly financial management information reports are produced and shared with managers and the board
- Monitor performance against budget and to take necessary corrective action
- Carry out weekly and monthly checks on financial records to identity any errors or queries
- Work closely with the Operations Administrator to ensure all financial procedures are correctly adhered to
- Learn how to competently use Xero accounting software to keep detailed financial records
- Manage Pursue’s staff effectively in a manner which encourages each staff member to learn and develop to the best of their ability, achieve their potential and make good decision in their area of work
- Provide staff with supervision, support, development and undertake appraisals for staff.
- Oversee the Operations Administrator’s daily tasks and meet with them weekly to ensure progress is made
- Oversee the two Pursue projects managers and ensure they are running their departments effectively
- Work with the project managers to devise and implement a robust system for staff training and development
- A bachelor's degree or above in a related discipline to the role
- At least 5 years of experience working within the NGO or development sector
- Previous experience of working in the capacity of project manager or a related role
- In-depth knowledge of the development and not for profit sector
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
- Proven experience of financial record keeping and budgeting
- Experience of carrying out monitoring and evaluation in the NGO sector
- Experience of strategic planning, project implementation and project management in the NGO sector
- ICT proficiency
- Ability to work under pressure and effectively problem solve
- Ability to work both alone and in a team situation with minimum supervision
- Proven experience of initiating successful fundraising campaigns
- Experience or knowledge of working in the education and community sector
- A personal Christian faith
- Familiarity with the Butere area
- Experience of table banking and small income generating businesses
- Understanding of the local dialect
