A leading tour firm located in Nairobi is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Product Development Officer to join our team. The role involves designing, developing, and enhancing innovative tour packages and experiences that meet market demand, drive revenue growth, and delight clients. The successful candidate will work closely with Tour Consultants to ensure products are sellable, competitive, and profitable. Hands-on experience as a Tour Consultant,
particularly in outbound tourism, for at least 3 years is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Design and Development
● Curate and enhance tour packages, itineraries, and experiences across Kenya, Africa and the rest of the world
● Ensure products are market-relevant, profitable, and aligned with company strategy.
● Collaborate with suppliers, hotels, transport operators, and local communities to deliver unique experiences.
Synergy with Tour Consultants
● Work closely with Tour Consultants to understand client needs and refine products accordingly.
● Provide training and guidance to Tour Consultants on new products, key selling points, and promotional strategies.
● Support the sales team in upselling and cross-selling initiatives.
Market Research & Analysis
● Conduct market research on trends, competitor offerings, and customer preferences.
● Analyze feedback and sales data to inform product development and pricing decisions.
Website & Digital Presence
● Ensure all tour packages and experiences on the company website are current, accurate, and visually appealing.
● Coordinate with marketing and IT teams to update content, images, itineraries, and pricing in real time.
Pricing & Cost Management
● Develop cost proposals and maintain competitive pricing for all products.
● Monitor product profitability and recommend adjustments when necessary.
Supplier & Vendor Management
● Negotiate contracts, rates and maintain relationships with hotels, transport providers, attractions, and other service providers.
● Ensure suppliers meet agreed service, safety, and quality standards.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
● Monitor tour delivery and customer feedback to ensure high-quality experiences.
● Ensure all products comply with tourism regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Innovation & Sustainability
● Identify opportunities for unique, responsible, and sustainable tourism products.
● Promote environmentally friendly and community-inclusive tourism initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Business Management, or related field.
● Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Tour Consultant with exposure to both outbound and inbound tourism.
● Experience in product development, tour operations, or travel consultancy is an advantage.
● Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and computer skills.
● Creative thinker with a customer-centric mindset and attention to detail.
