Impact Water is a social enterprise with headquarters in San Francisco, USA with operations in sub-Sahara Africa. We aim to deliver affordable and sustainable safe drinking water to millions of students through installation and maintenance of Water Purification Systems at schools.   

As a social business, the explicit aim is to deliver safe drinking water to all students to better support their learning and health and to support the government of Kenya and the United Nations in achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #6. To date, the enterprise has installed its water purification systems in about 10,000 schools in Kenya.


The Senior MIS / M&E Officer will be responsible for data and information management, research, monitoring and evaluation. Specific responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: 

Data Collection

  • Design and implement Taroworks forms and other data capturing tools to capture field data 

  • Build capacity of 150+ field agents to ensure the quality of data 

Database Management

  • Design reports and views in Salesforce to monitor incoming data. Check for errors and inconsistencies and develop effective processes for cleaning data

  • Research and implement tools to automatically send signed Delivery Notes to schools

Data Evaluation and Reporting

  • Analyze deliveries in GIS, Mapbox, or google data studio to ensure optimum route planning and develop a way to pay agents per km traveled

  • Analyze incoming data from deliveries to help with management decisions and to help improve operations

  • Compile Salesdatabase and Water Quality Test report during audit periods

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) function

  • Lead sample selection of water quality test schools and supervise water quality test field work

  • Ensure all agents are trained on proper M&E protocols

  • Participate in development of the M&E strategy for keystone strengthening

  • Perform basic analysis and reporting on findings of M+E exercises for decision making

  • Regular field visits (minimum of 10 schools to be sampled per month) to monitor installation, maintenance & repair, functionality and use of the water treatment systems. 

  • Design and supervise additional small-scale studies to evaluate functionality of systems and usage

Research Function

  • Support piloting of new technologies and digital/traditional outreach to assess cost-effectiveness and improved usage 

People’s management  

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a network of field agents

  • Supervise consultants to ensure maximum output on key deliverables. 

  • Initiate trainings to improve staff capacity in data collection, management and analysis, including Salesforce, Taroworks, google sheets, excel and ODK


  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in an M&E position responsible for implementing M&E activities 

  • Experience in designing and implementing surveys at scale, managing incoming data from a large field team and evaluating data to improve strategic planning and performance measurement

  • Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g. qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies.

  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Taroworks, ODK and GIS is preferred

  • Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills. Proficiency in Stata, R, SPSS or Power BI is a plus

  • Passion for quality data

  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time to visit schools across Kenya

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
