Our client is a startup poultry abattoir and integrated poultry operation based in Ruiru, Kenya. The company forms part of the respected group, a leading integrated poultry business in Uganda with a strong reputation in day-old chicks, feed production, and poultry processing.They are seeking to hire a dynamic and results oriented Business Development Executive with proven experience in the processed chicken or poultry/FMCG sector. This field-based role combines direct sales (80%) with van-based delivery and customer service (20%). The successful candidate will leverage an existing customer pipeline to introduce and grow our brand in Nairobi and surrounding regions, while driving revenue, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring timely, accurate deliveries. The role demands high energy, commercial awareness, cost consciousness, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Sales (80% focus):

  • Actively sell and promote our range of processed chicken products by visiting assigned routes and customers daily using a company van.
  • Leverage and expand your existing network of wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, hotels, and institutional buyers to introduce our products and secure orders.
  • Identify and penetrate new market opportunities in Nairobi and surrounding areas to drive incremental growth.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers through exceptional service, regular follow-ups, and addressing feedback promptly.
  • Monitor competitor activities, market trends, pricing, and customers’ needs to adapt strategies and inform management.

Delivery & Operations (20% focus):

  • Load, transport, and deliver orders directly from the van to customers, ensuring product quality, correct quantities, and timely arrival.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to align stock availability, packaging, and delivery schedules with customer expectations.
  • Handle cash collections, issue accurate invoices/receipts, and ensure timely remittances in line with company policies.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, stock rotation (FIFO for perishables), and accurate records of sales, deliveries, stock levels, and returns.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly sales reports, forecasts, route plans, and performance updates to management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualification in marketing, sales, business, economics, or a related field an advantage
  • At least 2 years of proven sales experience in the poultry/processed chicken industry or FMCG sector, with a strong emphasis on van sales or direct-to-customer selling.
  • Established and verifiable pipeline of active customers in Nairobi and regional markets (wholesalers, retailers, HoReCa).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and experience driving vans for sales/delivery purposes.
  • Track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets in a target-driven environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Performance will be measured monthly and quarterly against the following clear, achievable targets (adjusted based on territory potential and company goals):
  • Sales Revenue Target Achievement: Achieve or exceed weekly revenue targets
  • Sales Volume Target Achievement: Achieve or exceed weekly volume targets
  • New Customer Acquisition: Add a minimum of 4–6 new active customers per week
  • Collections & Receivables: Ensure ≥95% of collections within agreed credit terms
  • Route & Cost Efficiency: Minimize returns/spoilage (<1% of sales value) and adhere to fuel/vehicle cost budgets.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent field visits to out growers and suppliers across Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, and Murang’a counties
  • Occasional travel to Uganda
  • 45 hours per week with flexibility required for processing schedules, inspections, and urgent compliance matters
  • Company vehicle and fuel provided
