Undertake technical work to implement ongoing projects and develop new project proposals related to climate change and urban resilience within PFES and in support of the Hub of Mesoamerica (former Mexico and Cuba Office) and the Latin America and the Caribbean Region.

Duties and Responsibilities

About UN-Habitat
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The main documents outlining the mandate of the organization are the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, the Habitat Agenda, the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium, and UN General Assembly Resolution A/56/206.

Urban Practices Branch
The Urban Practices Branch (UPB) is the thematic department at UN-Habitat with a mandate to support national and local government in urban planning, design and management related areas of work, such as national urban policies, metropolitan planning, strategic and detailed planning, urban-rural linkages, urban regeneration, public space, urban planning and innovation and urban planning and climate change.

Planning, Finance and Economy Section
The Planning, Finance and Economy Section (PFES) is responsible for coordinating the Agency's substantive, normative and operational work on various dimensions of planning, finance and economy. The Section aims to develop, document, pilot/test and disseminate planning policies, norms, standards, tools, methodologies, regulatory frameworks, operating procedures and practices at global, regional, national and sub-national levels in support of (a) urban and territorial planning at all scales including urban design and public space design; (b) urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance); and (c) local economic development.

Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) and Mexico and Cuba Country Office
The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean â ROLAC is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. UN-Habitat Hub of Mesoamerica (former Mexico and Cuba country office) leads the operational work of UN-Habitat in both countries. Additionally, the UN-Habitat Urban Lab Mexico, part of the Hub of Mesoamerica, collaborates with governments and local partners to develop project proposals in territorial and urban planning, finance, innovation and its links with climate change and urban resilience.

2.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the PFES, Programme Management Officer and Coordinator of the Urban Lab Mexico in coordination with the Hub of Mesoamerica office, ROLAC and PFES, the incumbent of the post will have to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
-Provide technical expertise in climate change and urban resilience projects;
-Provide input and adapt urban planning methodologies and approaches to include climate change and urban resilience focus;
-Develop project proposals and research potential funding for climate change and urban resilience projects;
-Advice and implement participatory processes in the scope of climate change projects;
-Develop analysis, collection, interpretation and representation of data and spatial analysis;
-Produce desk and field research on topics related to climate change and urban resilience;
-Advise and develop materials for presentations, events, outreach, communications, capacity building sessions and workshops;
-Draft reports regarding the implementation of projects, including documentation, knowledge management, coordination, advocacy and outreach.

Qualifications/special skills

Education:
Fist level university degree in fields related to architecture, urban planning, or similar is required.

Work Experience:
At least 2 years of professional experience in the development and implementation of urban planning projects, in collaboration with multidisciplinary work teams is required

Knowledge of the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, Global Public Space Agenda and/or UN-Habitat language is an asset.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written skills in Spanish and English and have the technical capacity to draft and review specialized reports and documents on climate change and urban resilience is required.
