 About the Position 

Elewa is looking for a Department Lead - Education who shall work closely with C-suite executives while reporting to the CEO. The incumbent will be responsible for the growth and management of Elewa’s Education department and be accountable to attaining the business objectives in line with the organization’s strategic goals.

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities 

Strategy

• Set rational strategic long and short-term departmental goals including on sales & marketing, product, content, operations, HR, and support, in line with vision of the executive.

• Develop a business plan and pitch deck laying out your plans through effective and clear language, figures, and visuals.

• Develop and present substantiated budgets to the executive team, implementing the agreed-upon objectives and which clearly achieve the operational and profitability targets of the department.

• Lead marketing and communication efforts, in coordination with the respective teams and partners.

• Take part in the business development and proposal development for key partners.

• Set up and lead B2B sales and marketing teams, in coordination with executives.

• Identify and develop strategic partnerships which further the goals of the department and organization at large.

• Develop a collaboration framework and guidelines for other departments to connect to yours.


Management & Operations

• Translate and communicate the departmental plan to staff, clearly outlining each staff’s objective.

• Develop implementation plans to attain the objectives, including resource requirements, strategic recruitment, resource activation, and timelines.

• Develop project timelines and budgets for implementation.

• Evaluate outcomes on a continuous basis and report on them to the executive. 

• Take part in the onboarding process of relevant staff in liaison with HR.  

• Motivate and inspire staff while facilitating personal growth. 

• Work out training and professional development plans with each of your team members.

• Ensure high levels of productivity are maintained. Foster a productive working environment.

• guarantee the highest levels of quality are met.

• Develop and propose department budgets, for approval by the executive.

• Report progress and financial status on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis

• Negotiate with contractors and suppliers on an ongoing and/or project-to-project basis, depending on relevance.

• Collaborate closely with the finance and administration team to assure timely reporting, administration, and compliance.

Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the management from time to time and which are related to the achievement of Elewa’s mission and vision. 

Qualifications 

We are looking for an ambitious and dependable person, experienced yet with a never-ending hunger for personal growth, and capable of taking large responsibility. You should be an open-minded person that challenges all knowledge and assumptions and that is inspired to solve the problems of today's societies. 

Required Experience: We are looking for experienced candidates (at least 5 years) with a background in management and operations.

Skills  

• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks. 

• Excellent time management and well-developed organizational problem-solving and leadership skills. 

• Proactive and ability to communicate inspiringly.

• Understanding of and proficiency with finance.

• Great verbal and written communication skills. Proven leadership skills.

• Excellent computer application skills, including the full MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Teams, Sharepoint, …). 

• At least a bachelor’s degree in business and/or administration

Job location, Context, and Environment for the successful candidate 

• We offer you a flexible and friendly work environment in which you have the opportunity to grow. 

• The role requires flexible attendance at Elewa’s workstation in Nairobi, with occasional assignments in the field depending on work schedule. 

• You may periodically work long hours to meet deadlines or respond to critical situations that needs your attention. 

• You will be required to be on standby to respond to specific situations.  

• We provide a competitive salary depending on technical capacity and experience to enable you to fully focus on your work.  

• Expected start date is July 1st.
