About the role
This is a wide-ranging and energetic role for a highly organised, sports-passionate educator who believes in the transformative power of activity beyond the classroom. The successful candidate will oversee the full breadth of Cavina’s extra-curricular programme whilst also leading girls’ sports across the school. The role demands equal measures of administrative precision, sporting expertise, and the ability to inspire pupils in both structured and adventurous settings.

Key responsibilities
Extra-curricular co-ordinator
• Plan, co-ordinate, and manage the school’s full extra-curricular programme across all year groups and terms
• Liaise with teaching staff, external coaches, and activity providers to schedule and deliver a rich and varied calendar of clubs and activities
• Maintain accurate records of pupil participation and ensure equitable access to extracurricular opportunities for all pupils
• Co-ordinate school trips, excursions, Outward Bound activities, and adventure expeditions, including all logistics, risk assessments, and parental communications
• Lead and manage mountain and outdoor expeditions, including the school’s annual Mount Kenya expedition for Upper School pupils
• Promote the value of extra-curricular engagement to pupils, parents, and staff
• Produce and circulate termly extra-curricular timetables and communicate changes efficiently
• Ensure all extra-curricular activities comply with the school’s health, safety, and safeguarding policies

Head of girls’ sports
• Develop and deliver a high-quality, structured girls’ sports programme across all year groups
• Coach and manage girls’ teams across a range of sports, including netball, athletics, swimming, and tennis
• Organise and oversee inter-school fixtures, tournaments, and sports days
• Instil in pupils the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and healthy competition
• Monitor and report on pupil progress, participation, and achievement in sport
• Identify and nurture sporting talent, providing appropriate pathways for gifted athletes
• Manage sports equipment, facilities, and departmental budgets effectively
• Co-ordinate with the PE department to ensure a coherent and progressive approach to physical education and sport

Person specification
Qualifications – essential
• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Education, or a closely related discipline
• Valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) certificate, or evidence that the applicant is in the process of obtaining the certificate
• Relevant coaching or sports leadership qualifications are an advantage
• A valid first aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement)

Experience
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a school or sporting environment, with a strong track record in sports coaching or PE teaching
• Demonstrable experience co-ordinating extra-curricular or enrichment programmes
• Experience leading outdoor education, adventure expeditions, or Outward Bound activities is highly desirable
• Working experience in a British curriculum school is an advantage

Skills and attributes
• A genuine passion for sport and the conviction that physical activity is central to a child’s development
• Exceptional organisational and logistical skills, with the ability to manage a complex and varied programme
• Strong leadership and team management abilities
• An adventurous spirit and proven confidence in outdoor and expedition settings
• Excellent communication skills with pupils, parents, and colleagues
• A genuine commitment to and alignment with the school’s Christian ethos and values
• High standards of safeguarding awareness and professional conduct
• Energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive approach to all aspects of school life

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Details will be shared with
