Graduate Research Assistant

Position Description

The Graduate Research Assistant will perform independent academic research, write literature reviews, and annotated bibliographies on Digital skills, Digital skills for employability, digital agricultural services and other research projects. In addition, the successful applicant for this position will manage the collection, maintenance and analysis of research data for various projects related to the use and applications of ICT and the digital economy. Working under the supervision of the principal investigator, the Research Assistant will conduct and interpret statistical analyses, prepare presentations (including policy briefs and journal articles.) and manuscripts and coordinate study activities.

Qualifications

1) Must be a graduate with a proven track record and Strong quantities research skills

2) 2+ years of research experience (experience with academic research/NGO WORK type research)

3) Excellent organizational, analytic and interpretive skills

4) Exemplary writing skills Tech savvy (Microsoft Office, Social Media, Zoom,

5) Photoshop, Open A.I., and many online tools

6) Highly efficient, collaborative & organized

7) Excellent communication skills

8) Possess strong self-initiative & ability to multitask

9) Project management and event production skills desired

10) Ability to work with minimal supervision and efficiently meet deadlines.

11) Graphic Design or Photography skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

Desktop Research

1) Conduct academic research on Digital Skills Frameworks, Curriculum, competencies, and impacts, Remembering to articulate their strengths, weaknesses, and gaps

2) , Conduct academic research on Digital Skills for Agricultural services  Frameworks, Curriculum, competencies, and effects. Remembering to communicate their strengths, weaknesses, and gaps

3) Conduct academic research on Digital Agricultural services relevant content Frameworks, providers, usage, benefits and impacts

4) , Conduct academic research on Digital Skills for training models,  Frameworks, Curriculum, competencies, and effects. Remembering to articulate their strengths, weaknesses, and gaps

5) , Conduct academic research on  Digital Agricultural services  relevant content delivery and platforms, models, usage, benefits  and impacts, Remembering to articulate their strengths, weaknesses, and gaps

6) Research and collects data through complex techniques and procedures, library research, structured interviews or other project-specific methodology.

7) Interprets, synthesizes and analyses data.

8) Schedules, organizes, and reports on the status of research activities.

9) Plans and modifies research techniques, procedures, tests, equipment or software management.

10) Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation.

11) Meets with supervisor regularly to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant’s performance.

Research Writing Skills

1. use medley reference AND  citations USING the APA reference system

2. write project report inception etc

3. Draw graphic models and charts, and frameworks

4. Write  M& E reports

5. Write literature reviews & annotated bibliographies

6. Assist with the preparation and editing of manuscripts

7. Collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data for multiple research projects

8. Assist with project management, event planning and production

9. Maintain accurate records of data

10. Assist with special projects and assignments

11. Attend project development meetings

12. Assist in the development of project methodology.

13. Engage in data collection.

14. Engage in data entry and data analysis.

15. Assist with manuscript and grant development.

16. Assist with developing professional presentations.

17. Manage data collection and coordination of study activities, including the development, implementation and evaluation of all operational and scientific aspects

18. Design, develop and implement study procedures, including the selection of appropriate methods for identifying study cohorts, creation of datasets for analysis and ensuring data quality and confidentiality

19. Prepare research ethics applications, data sharing agreements and study progress reports

20. Conduct literature searches and maintain citation databases

21. Analyse research data, interpret results, prepare manuscripts and presentations

22. Prepare policy briefs to disseminate research findings at scientific meetings and conferences

23. Prepare journal articles to share research findings at scientific meetings and conferences

24. Perform other duties as assigned 

Abilities and Attributes

25. Subject knowledge and oral/written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.

26. Ability to work independently and accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues that arise during the research.

27. Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis.

28. Superior writing and communication skills, including the ability to contribute to presentations, grant proposals and manuscripts

29. Proficiency with appropriate analytic software and tools, SPSS, R-Studio, and Python, in particular

30. Ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision

31. Strong organization and interpersonal skills

Required:

1) Must have their laptop for use

2) Must be able to use a workbook in Google Docs to account for their productivity for each hour of a day

3) Must provide quality work as guided

4) Must be devoid of lies and lack of integrity

5) Must self-report to the supervisor for any failure or non-compliance.

6) Must be highly productive to justify value for money
