Job Description/Requirements
Key Responsibilities in a CBC Context
● Curriculum Implementation: The head of the lower primary section would be responsible for ensuring that the CBC is effectively implemented. This includes understanding the curriculum framework, guidelines, and objectives, and ensuring that teachers are delivering lessons in line with CBC principles.
● Teacher Support and Development: Providing teachers with the necessary support, resources, and professional development opportunities to effectively implement CBC. This may involve organizing training, workshops, and providing guidance on new teaching methodologies.
● Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitoring classroom practices, evaluating teacher performance, and reviewing student progress to ensure that high-quality teaching and learning is taking place. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of assessment and tracking systems.
● Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of lower primary students.
● Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration in the implementation of CBC.
General Duties of a Head of Lower Primary Section
In addition to the CBC-specific responsibilities, the head of the lower primary section would also be expected to:
● Provide Leadership and Management: Providing leadership and management for the lower primary section, including overseeing the day-to-day operations, managing staff, and ensuring the smooth running of the section.
● Maintain Academic Standards: Ensuring the delivery of a high-quality curriculum and the maintenance and development of the highest possible academic standards.
● Oversee Pastoral Care: Taking responsibility for the pastoral support of all pupils in the lower primary section, and ensuring that their personal development is effectively promoted.
● Resource Management: Managing budgets and resources effectively to support the delivery of the curriculum and the needs of the students and teachers.
● Be a class teacher; Teach students within the lower grade section.
Qualifications
● Bachelor in Early Childhood Education.
● Minimum 5 years of teaching practise.
● Must have a TSC number.
● Strong academic record.
● Advanced understanding of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.
● Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
● Proven experience in a leadership role within a school setting.
● Strong pedagogical knowledge and skills.
