Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to support the finance and administration team in managing day-to-day accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in financial reporting, managing receivables and payables, and supporting compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. The role also involves assisting in operations-related tasks such as managing equipment inventory, reporting on attendance, analyzing financial trends, preparing budgets, and supporting broader finance and operational improvements.

Reporting To: Finance Manager
Salary Range: 40,000 gross
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
● Record and reconcile incoming and outgoing payments.
● Prepare and issue invoices to clients.
● Follow up on outstanding receivables and ensure timely collections.
● Process supplier payments and verify supporting documentation.
● Share statement of Accounts to directors and follow up on outstanding WHT payments.
● Entering payments or preparing cheques for approval.
Bookkeeping & General Ledger
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions.
● Assist in monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger postings.
● Record journal entries and maintain supporting documents.
● Ensure petty cash documents are accurately recorded with supporting documents.
● Ensure monthly reconciliation of fixed deposit accounts and investment accounts.
● Ensure timely recording of WHT certificates and VAT - WHT certificates.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
● Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly management accounts, and annual financial reports.
● Support audit preparations by organizing financial documents and responding to auditor queries.
● Ensure timely filing of statutory returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF) in compliance with Kenyan laws.
● Ensure all statutory payments are paid latest by the 5th of every month.
● Assist in ensuring timely remittance of NHIF Tier 2 contributions to Kenindia Insurance.
Administrative & Team Support
● Maintain proper filing systems for financial records and documents.
● Assist in preparing payroll data
● Reviewing and processing employee reimbursements
● Ensure timely banking of cheques.
● Provide general support to the finance team and other departments as needed.
● Check and review monthly Bolt ride statements to ensure company usage compliance.
● Issue company equipment to new staff, securely store equipment not currently in use and equipment returned upon staff exit, and maintain an up-to-date inventory log of both equipment and assets.
● Ensure proper handover processes are followed when assigning equipment, assets and accounts to new employees or exiting employees, with accurate records kept.
● Review and report on monthly staff attendance and escalate any discrepancies where necessary.
● Assist in analyzing financial reports, including identifying financial trends, variances, and areas for savings or improvements.
● Provide support in preparing marketing cost breakdowns and ensure final sales attribution is accurately recorded in financial reports.
● Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts, working closely with the finance manager.
● Actively participate in initiatives aimed at improving financial processes, cost control, and operational efficiency.
● Commitment to continual professional learning and growth within the finance and operations functions.
● Other tasks as assigned by management
● Covering duties for senior accountant during absences
Qualifications & Skills
● CPA Qualification and / or Degree in Accounting or Finance
● At least 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience; real estate industry experience is a plus.
● Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar).
● Strong Excel skills and knowledge of financial reporting.
● Excellent attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
● Good communication and interpersonal skills.
● High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
● Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
● Willingness to learn and grow within the finance function.
● Ability to support cross-functional tasks in operations, inventory management, and financial analysis.
