It was originally known as Chich Onuno (Onuno’s market) but it was renamed to Homa Bay by colonialists in because it was overlooking the then Huma Hills in Karachuonyo. Visitors from overseas pronounced Huma as ‘Homa’ and the residents adopted the name Homa Bay. Administratively, Homa Bay County has eight constituencies which also serve as Sub County administrative Units- Mbita, Ndhiwa, Homa Bay Town, Rangwe, Karachuonyo, Kabondo, Kasipul and Suba.Duties and Responsibilities This is the entry and training grade into the Livestock Production Officers’ cadre. An officer at this level will be deployed at sub county or ward level and will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior Officer. Duties and responsibilities will include;Providing technical advice in animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture, and ranching and to promote economic livestock farming.Assisting in organizing extension activities including field days, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits.Performing any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications For appointment to this grade, a candidate must Must be a Kenyan CitizenHave obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following disciplines: Animal Science/Animal Production, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Range Management/ Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics and Dairy Technology, Agricultural Education and Extension, Animal Health and Management from a recognized Institution in KenyaIntegrity ClearanceSuccessful applicants are expected to get clearance from the following bodies.Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)For those with higher education certificates (degrees) from outside Kenya, a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission of University.
