Job Summary

To support this goal, seek a Monitoring and Evaluation Associate who will play a critical role assisting the MERL Specialist in designing, implementing and overseeing all MERL activities of the project and associated processes. This position is responsible for ensuring that the project meets its objectives effectively by tracking progress, assessing impact, and providing data-driven insights for continuous improvement. The Associate will collaborate with project teams to design M&E frameworks, develop data collection tools, manage databases, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data while leading the preparation of detailed reports and presentations to project stakeholders. This position requires expertise in data management, stakeholder engagement, and adaptive learning approaches to enhance the project’s efficiency, accountability, and sustainability.
Reporting into Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist
Key Responsibilities
Organizational
● Assist in developing and implementing M&E frameworks, tools, and methodologies for projects and programs.
● Ensure timely and accurate data reporting.
● Responsible for ensuring successful Data Quality Assessment(s), evaluations, and responding to other ad-hoc requests for data and information related to project activities.
● Assist to manage initiatives to improve project’s performance management plans (PMPs) and M&E system design and implementation
Functional
● Report and work closely with the team to lead the design, development, and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning functions and frameworks to ensure organizational effectiveness for Brighter Monday Kenya’s work.
● Supervise and coordinate the design and implementation of data collection protocols, analysis and evaluation of projects to ensure data gathered is credible, valid, and useful.
● Oversee the use of appropriate M&E and data collection tools and methodologies that align with both internal and the project’s standards.
● Ensure compliance with ethical standards in data collection, particularly in marginalized and sensitive contexts.
● Develop and implement systems for verifying and validating data accuracy before submission, using methods such as cross-referencing, triangulation, and peer review.
● Conduct detailed reviews of data quality, ensuring that all figures reported to the project are backed by valid and reliable sources.
● Oversee regular spot checks, audits, and internal reviews to identify and rectify any discrepancies in the data.
● Ensure proper documentation of all data sources, methodologies, and validation processes, maintaining transparency, integrity, data excellence and accountability in reporting.
● Carry out critical and complex analyses of data, including visualization of project data and dashboard designs, to display project impact and communicate conclusions clearly with actionable recommendations.
● Engage with internal and external stakeholders on the project to support the dissemination of lessons learnt from research, field engagement, or reports and assist in policy development and advocacy activities for the organization.
● Organize and facilitate monitoring and evaluation of learning activities/ sessions.
● Contribute to ongoing research, evaluation and learning plans, as well as design and report documentation.
● Communicate regularly with the team lead to provide updates on progress, challenges, and solutions related to M&E data reporting,
● Coordinate MEL and other relevant stakeholders to review and finalize statutory data reports, ensuring alignment with the project’s requirements and timelines.
● Carry out writing activities, such as white papers, concept notes, research writing, evaluation reports, policy briefs, infographics, peer reviews, focus group discussions(FGDs) and articles, etc.
● Carry out all other tasks assigned by the team lead.

Key Skills & Competencies
Skills
● Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Economics, Development Studies and related fields
● 3-5 years’ of solid experience in an international NGO program/project planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning with expertise in impact-driven reporting
● Proven experience in using Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT), Performance Indicator Reference Sheet (PIRS), Performance Management Plan (PMP) and other M&E tools and processes
● Good presentation, effective communication, networking and partnering skills
● Highly skilled in statistical data analysis using computer packages like SPSS, STATA, Epi-info, MS-Excel MS-Access, and very much skilled in the use of MS-Word
● A strong aptitude for organizational change, innovation, learning, team work
Competencies

● Strong experience in designing and implementation of complex and innovative M&E system, tools and processes and in quantitative and qualitative data processing and analysis
● Experience working in a similar position for an NGO or an international organization is preferred
● Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues.
● Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team.
● Must also be able to create a supportive working relationship among all project teams.
