Numbering pupils, it comprises two semi-autonomous schools: a Preparatory School of circa pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of circa pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. It is fully coeducational and the great majority are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to ‘live and lead with integrity’. SummarySt Andrew’s, Prep School is seeking to appoint a Music Teaching Mentor. Their primary role will in providing the very best academic support in the music classroom, and in the Co-curricular Music Field, through helping with the teaching and learning opportunities for the music classes and ensembles assigned. They will also be expected to be able to lead Sunday Worship on Alternate Weekends.Key areas of responsibility will be to:-Boarding Promote the welfare of children and to support the School in safeguarding children through relevant policies and proceduresMaintain good order and discipline among the pupils, safeguarding their health and safetyProvide support and assistance to House ParentsBe part of the Boarding House team, involved in decision making on the activities, initiatives, routines and pastoral arrangements.Perform pastoral duties in the evening and weekends Academic Provide support and assistance to teachersAssist in developing lesson plans based on the School’s schemes of work and the specific needs of each childProficient use of Notation Software such as Sibelius, Finale and or Musescore.Collaborate with teachers to monitor the development of each childUnderstand the teacher’s routine when it comes to delivering a lesson plan and running the class in the event that the teacher is absent on a particular day.Work with children in the classroom to promote their learning and developmentProvide cover for lessons when requiredCo-Curricular Music and Other DutiesGenerate and update Peripatetic Lesson Timetables, which requires proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and particularly Microsoft Excel.Lead the administration and management of the Peripatetic Music ProgrammeCo-lead Vocal and/or Instrumental Ensemble GroupsThe applicant will be expected to contribute strongly to the co-curricular life of the School. There are some things that are essential to working with us.The successful candidate will need to be able to support the School’s aims and Christian ethos. They will have to have a degree in education or related field and/or hold a teaching qualification coupled with being a registered teacher with the Teacher’s Service Commission. Beyond that we want to have staff who love working as part of a team, who are first-class communicators and who are passionate about the subjects and pupils they teach; who are creative and diligent in their planning; who are adaptable, energetic and resilient. Experience of working in a School environment, or in boarding, would be desirable, but not essential. Above all, what matters is a commitment to help us provide a world-class education for our children.QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge & Experience A good degreeRecognized teaching qualification e.g. PGCERegistered with the Kenyan Teacher’s Commission TSCA demonstrable commitment to professional self-improvementA good degree in either Education or PGCE in Education EXPERIENCE Experience of teachingA proven track record of excellent teaching and classroom management skillsExperience of teaching in a Prep School Context.Experience of teaching English, Mathematics, EYFS & SENDExperience of boarding Skills Excellent communication and inter-personal skillsAbility to use a range of teaching strategies to support the full range of educational needs. Evidence of being able to lead , manage and be responsible for initiatives/developments.Knowledge of current generic developments in teaching and learning.
