Job Description (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) Board is a statutory body of the Government of Kenya established by an Act of Parliament, Cap of the Laws of Kenya in April . The Board’s mandate is to develop, promote, establish and equip libraries in Kenya. The State Corporations Act Cap of the laws of Kenya also guides the Board in its operations. Duties and Responsibilities:Financial and administrative management of the library services and facilities Carry out development and maintenance of inventory of library resources distributed to public libraries and national library in KenyaIdentify and recommend areas of research, and draft concept papers and policies on library matters for approvalMonitor and advise the organization on emerging trends on cataloguing, classification, indexing, abstracting, and creating user profilesProvide information literacy which involves training library user on how to search information from various sources in different formatsParticipate in the acquisition of books produced in and outside Kenya and such other materials and sources of knowledge necessary for a comprehensive national libraryParticipate in campaigns for the eradication of illiteracyImplement budgets for library stock in terms of books, software, furniture and equipmentLiaises with international and national organizations on professional matters relating to the mandate of knlsOversee collection of revenue through membership fees, book borrowing fees and library finesResource mobilization in support of library programmesInitiate strategic partnerships with development partners in support of various activities in ICT and other capital development of the institutionInitiates disciplinary issues/matters for the unit and undertake activities that promote discipline, employee relations, and engagementPromote acquisition of ISBN to local publishers/authorsOversee the security of Boards assetsDevelop a database for authors/publishers in their jurisdiction RequirementsQualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies/Information Science or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institutionMaster’s degree in Library Studies/Information Science from a recognized University will be an added advantageThree years working as a Senior Librarian in a busy Public/National Library ServicesManagement Course lasting not less than four weeks will be an added advantageMember Kenya Library AssociationProficiency in ICT applicationKnowledge in acquisition of e-content will be an added advantage Core Competencies Leadership skillsICT working knowledgeCreativity and innovationInterpersonal skillsNetworking skillsNegotiating skillsCustomer Care Skills
