Senior Underwriter Construction & Design Professional Liability Remote/Hybrid This newly created Senior Underwriter Construction & Design Professional Liability position reports to the Construction Professional Executive. The role will work closely with an established professional team to strengthen distribution channels, develop, underwrite, and manage a book of complex Construction & Design Professional Liability business nationally. Candidate Profile Senior Underwriter Construction & Design Professional Liability should be a hands-on technical expert with a history of success within a top-tier Commercial Insurance Carrier focused on building a complex book of primary and excess contractor's protective professional indemnity (CPPI), owners protective professional indemnity (OPPI), and architects and engineer (A&E) products. Ideal candidates possess key retail and wholesale broker and marketplace relationships and full life cycle exposure to portfolio management, including solicitation of submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing. Additionally, the candidate must have an executive presence, demonstrating success communicating, influencing, and building relationships that add value to the AXIS book of business and contribute to longer-term strategic initiatives. Work Profile This role offers a hybrid work environment in California, NY/NJ Region, Chicago, or Alpharetta, Ga. This position also requires regular travel to meet with brokers and clients face-to-face and attend industry and company events. Responsibilities Profitably develop and grow primary and excess construction professional, owner protective, and architects and engineers' business. Review, analyze, accept, and validate pricing for risks to ensure profitability. Develop and manage broker and intermediary relationships along with sales and marketing. Develop internal relationships with other profit centers and distribution staff. Supervise and assist a team with underwriting referrals and training. Minimum qualifications 5+ years experience underwriting primary and excess professional liability in the construction marketplace. Strong background in CPPI (Contractor Professional and Protective), OPPI (Owner Protective Professional), and A&E (Architects and Engineers). Extensive experience underwriting annual practice, project-specific, excess, and quota share placements. Broad wholesale and retail distribution network with a strong broker following. Proficient construction industry knowledge. Proven record of underwriting profitable business. Strong analytical and quantitative skills in risk and insurance metrics. Energetic and likable with a sense of urgency and get it done attitude. Bachelor's degree For this position, we expect to offer a base salary in the range of USD 150,000 to USD 190,000 (New York), USD 135,000 to USD 175,000 (New Jersey), USD 135,000 to USD 175,000 (Chicago), USD 125,000 to USD 165,0000 (Georgia), USD 160,000 to 190,000 (LA). The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of various factors, including the successful candidate's experience and work location.
